I have the same problem. After the battery mysteriously died and recharge there is no sound from the radio. Unfortunatley I don't have any instruction books for the sound system. My guess it is some "safe" security for the sound system so that it won't work if stolen. But how do I reset it?

I have an update to my radio problem - no sound. After VW service changed a front light and couldn't find a problem with the radio. They wanted $99 to look at it - we declined. The next morning the battery was mysteriously dead again, but when I removed the key and exited the car...the radio stayed on and sound started coming out! Without the key in the ignition! After charging the battery - again, everything seems to be working fine. No error codes and the radio is playing. Any ideas on where to look for the problem. Obviously something electronic is happening and causing the battery to drain. Maybe I have VW gremlins?

SOURCE: 2000 Jetta Radio is dead after a dead battery jump start

Some German cars have anti-theft device inside to make it useless to steal...check at the dealership to see if jumping the battery will activate this(the car thinks its being stolen) .

SOURCE: I bought a used 2003 Jetta for my daughter with

I have come to find out that in the 90's auto makers started installing factory amplifiers in their cars so they could use low wattage stereos in the dash. It's usually a blue wire off the stereo that runs the amp, maybe it couldve become disconnected? I also know that even if you put in an after market stereo, this wire must be hooked up or you'll get no sound from the speakers. hope this helps.

SOURCE: Engine stalls while driving. Fuel deprivation?

I am having the exact same problem with my VW Touareg @60,000 miles. Two weeks ago and again today it sputters and stalls shortly after starting. I brought it into the shop and they could not reproduce the problem and said it was fine. Also, they had no ideas when I describes the problem. Anyone know what it going on? I am out of warranty.

I assume there's a problem with alternator. Check the grounding to engine, check continuity of a positive wire between alternator and battery. the energizing voltage should be checked as well. Might be the bad connection between battery and vehicle body grounding. Diesel cars are sensitive even in a little loss of connection and rust in the connection points.

NO CRANK, it does NOT CRANK,
the starters is dead, slow .
this is a no crank, the job of the starter.
if it cant crank, it surely can never start, unless push started.
but the jumper starting is the easy way to replace the battery
so you did.

jump starts. so the battery is bad. in car.
end story.
there is one exception bad battery cables.
if you jumpted to the battery lugs, then the battery is bad
if you connected the minus jump clip to the car body
then the battery minus cable was bypass. and could be bad.
same with plus but i bet you didnt to funny things with PLUS.

What did you plug in? I had a similar issue when I plugged in a high amp tire pump. It kept blowing fuses because the pump itself had a short. Be wary of using stuff like that in the cig lighter. I switched to a hand held pump. How was the computer found to be defective? I wonder if the cig issue shorted the computer?

You need a GM dealer to sort this type of problem out, it is way over the head of the do it yourself person.

Is the alternator charging it ? Do you have a light on in your dash : " ALT" or "BAT" ?
Check cables connections for corrosion also.

if you have a multi meter disconnect positve battery terminal and put red wire to battery and black to battery cable put multi meter on resistance should be 0.005 or less if more then check for things that may be plugged in to cig lighter etc turn door lights off etc dont turn key on any more than 0.005 will drain battery
