The locking solenoid may need to be replaced, or the rod adjusted.
You will need to remove the door panel to watch the movement.
If the solenoid is not fully extending, it will require replacement.
It will look similar to this...
driver sode door lock - 7fbc21e.jpg
In the picture below, it will be #4

47cdcd4.gif Check the locking mechanism is lubricated properly. Try spraying some penetrating oil in the mechanism (just above 3 in the diagram) Wait 10 minutes, and re-try.
If the actuator does not fully extend, it will need to be replaced.

The door latch maybe the problem. That needs to work properly before the lock actuator will function properly.

99 mercury mountaineer door opens but won't lock on driver side. all other doors lock. What can be wrong?

The lock actuator is broken. Seems as if it went out in the unlock position. So you cant lock it. Replace the actuator and you will be able to lock it again.

My door wont close on my 2003 moutaineer

YOU PROBABLY HAVE THE LOCK ON LOCK POSITION. OPEN THE DOOR, PULL THE OUTSIDE HANDLE OF THE DOOR UP AND WITH SCREW DRIVER PULL THE LOCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DOOR TILL UNLOCK POSITION, THEN CLOSE THE DOOR.

The driver side door will not lock or unlock with remote control. all other doors and trunk respond well

Does the driver side door lock and unlock when you press the lock/unlock button on the handle?

If it doesn't work inside either, then either the wiring is damaged/shorted, the solenoid may be bad or the lock may be jammed.

If the lock is jammed then it will be difficult to lock and unlock with the key as well.

Any of those three problems will require you to take the door panel off and inspect behind it.

I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer and the driver side and the rear driver side door locks stick when I try to unlock the doors. I have to press unlock several times until the doors unlock. It happens...

You'll need to remove the inside door panel after removing the interior door handle plastic. The spray the lock mechanism with silicone spray. Don't use WD40 as it will dry up and things will stick again. The best thing to use is a chain oil, like for a motorcycle chain. That oil is a sticky oil and can be sprayed on as you physically move the lock to help the oil penetrate. the sticky chain oil does not dry out and will last much longer then even silicone spray, but you may eventually need to do this job again. If you don't have a manual for your vehicle it would be a good idea, since it will have specific steps for removing the door panel for access. Hope this helps and please rate my solution - and thanks for using Fixya!!

I have a 1996 Mercury Mountaineer. Sometimes the drivers side interior door handle does not open the door. It moves but ti does not open the door. This is a on again, off again problem. Is it connected...

no the latch could be hanging up, the keyless entry pad has no mechanical connection, lube the latch area generously, ....even pull the highest bolt holding the latch in place and with the red nozzel spry into the bolt hole .....hold handle in up position and close door like ten times or more to work the lube into moving components....... make sure when this happens that the lock is fully rising to allow to open,
may need and actuator also if thats not occuring.

My driver side door wont open how do i get it

sounds like the door lach is sticking
use some wd40 spray the lock and let it sit 4 a while
now since you have the inside skin off reach inside the door with 1 hand and try and open the door from the outside and see if the lock bar moves it usualy pushes down i think on a lach
if it goes up and down with no resistance make sure it is contacting the lach if yes make sure the door is unlocked
somtimes the lock is just stuck
after unlock open the door
push down on lock bar attached to lock then pull up on it if that fails to open door
after that all fails unlock door have friend pull handle and then give the door a good kick from inside just remember not the kick the glass

Goodmorning! I had purchased a 2000 mercury

spray a small amount of W/D 4o into the key lock and then put the key in and move it back and forward until the lock free up and also spray a small amount in the inside lock of the door as well and then do the same on the other side the reason you had this problem is because the last owner only used the remotes to lock and unlock the doors and not the key sometimes.
