Hard Starting diesel

I have a 2000 ford F350 with a 7.3L diesel and when it gets below +30 e I start having problems starting it without cycling it 3 or 4 times. When it gets to low 20's and colder you can forget it till its plugged in. I have replaced the wiring harness and all the glowplugs and this has not made a difference. Any sugestions???

You need to check to see if your block heater is working if equipped. You also should have a plug to plug in for you heater to heat your dielel fuel.

2004 f250 hard time starting on cold mornings like 30 to 40 degrees

Hi

is this a gas version or diesel fuel ? if it is a dieserl then the heater plugs may be shot, you can normally give it 3 heats or lights then it would start easier, if not then this is msot likely the cause otherwise it could be a fuel pump problem, fuel relay fault or blocked fuel filter

Regards

Dan
hope this helps, if not get back to me with more specifics

Tip

Easier starts in the cold temps.

If your getting hard or no starts in the winter/cold temps cycle the glow plugs 2-3 times. They are programmed to cycle up to 120 seconds or 2 minutes which in some cases isn't enough. Turn the key to ignition (not start) and allow the plugs to heat for about 90 seconds then back off again. Do this 2-3 times and your diesel should fire up. If extremely cold plug it in for an hour which should be enough to assist in starting.

1989 ford f350 diesel 7.3 will start with starting fluid but wont stay running

Never, ever use starting fluid in your diesel.

Taken from the Owners Manual - Diesel Supplement:

Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds at a time as starter
damage may occur. If the engine fails to start, turn the key to OFF and
wait 30 seconds before trying again.
Do not use starting fluid such as ether in the air intake system (see Air
Cleaner Decal). Such fluid could cause immediate explosive damage to
the engine and possible personal injury.
Do not add gasoline, gasohol or alcohol to diesel fuel. This practice
creates a serious fire hazard and causes engine performance problems.
1. Make sure all vehicle occupants have buckled their safety belts. For
more information on safety belts and their proper usage, refer to Seating
and safety restraints chapter in the owner guide.

2000 ford super duty 7.3 diesel will not cold start

you need to have the engine coolant switch checked, since the computer relies solely on sensors, the ect tells the computer how cold or hot it is so the computer will make it a rich or lean mixture to start the engine,if it tells the computer that it is 75 degrees the computer will lean the mixture like starting a car in the winter without a choke.

No electric pulse to injectors on 1994 ford f350 diesel turbo 7.3

Im confused how do you have a direct inject diesel in a truck made 3 years before ford had such a thing 94(suposed to ) has a indirect inject diesel there is no electric wires running to the injectors there's only a pipe with very high pressure fuel running thru it
are you sure your not confusing the glow plug wires ?
they only get power to them for like 30 seconds when first starting it

whats the real problem?

Starting problems Kia Sportage

Its too cold ... get a block heater. At least get an under hood heater, even an old electric blanket will work ... just don't forget to remove it before starting the engine.

You also might look into holding the preheaters on longer.

1999 F250 SD 7.3L cold starting problem

Yes, my 2003 did the same with about 75k miles on it, stranded me on days it stayed under 40F unless I plugged in the block heater the night before, then it started like a champ. Dealer replaced the relay and a control unit under ESP warranty. There's no way to fix this one without throwing parts at it.
