Air Conditioning on BMW 3 Series 2003

Hi, I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me with a problem with the Air conditioning system on my BMW 3 series (320d 2003). Everything works as it should when using the heater (except I can smell a slightly "old" smell). Yet, when I press the Air conditioning button there is no difference in the outflow of the air and the temperature remains the same. On a particularly hot day it seems to blow warm air into the cabin even though the A/C is on. Would changing the micro filter help this problem? I would love a reply with no jargon used as I'm a novice!! Many thanks Dawn

NB: When posting this question I had to select the car model as a 325 as 320d did not show up, however my car is definitely a 320d (sorry for any confusion)

On this vehicle if the service history is up to date the microfilter would have been changed no more than 15000 miles ago. You may need the help from a garage to check to make sure that the air con system is fully charged, if so it may be the heater control panel it's self that may be at fault. It may be worth a visit to a local specalist or dealer to get the fault memories read but ask for a fixed quote for diagnosis before hand. hope this may be of help.

I have a 1999 323i BMW. The AC doesnt blow cold (on cool days it blows cool temperature but not common A/C Cold Air, Hot Days it blows Warm/Hot Air). The heater blows warm air but definitely not common...

First things first.....You must have the air conditioning system hooked up to an a/c system machine and then checked for leaks and also read low and high side pressures. If there are leaks then low Freon (R134a) content and low refrigerant oil can cause the a/c system to not engage the a/c compressor which basically means you will not have proper defrost functionality nor regular air conditioning. Most shops, when working with your air conditioning, will install air conditioning dye to assist them in locating leaks and is the first step in diagnosing all a/c systems. Post the findings after thw

Air conditioning failure

The most probable cause is that you have a leak in your A/C system..and it needs to be serviced with R134A and a can of red dye added so the leak can be found..i hope this helps ya...Keith

Difference between an Air Filter and Air Conditioning filter

The air conditioning filter that your manual speaks of is known as a ''cabin filter'', it is much differant then your engine air filter. It filters the incoming air into your vehicles interior. So if someone has told you to replace your ''air filter'' they are more then likely speaking of your ''engine'' air fitler. You should check your engine air filter every oil change. If it shows signs of dirt, then replace it. Hope this helps =)
