Dealing with a slipping transmission that raves up in the RPM's and shifts when you accelerate sounds frustrating. My friend is actually having a similar problem. We've talked about it and think it might just be better to take her car to a mechanic just in case something else might be causing the problem.

Is it Manual or Auto transmission ?

If Auto, have you checked your transmission fluid level ?
Do this first !

Good luck !

    Hi again,

Afraid your symptoms are consistent of possible excessive mechanical wear in the Auto Box drive train, ie:- clutch plates , bands, convertor or a servo?

Expect you are looking at an expensive repair, so maybe its time to say goodbye to the Explorer, whils´t its still mobile ?

    Good Luck !

My 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 2WHLDR 5.3L transmission slips from 2500 rpm's in second gear and will not shift into 3rd

Is there anyway you can pull a code? Because it can be solenoid related, for this type of transmission the speed sensor (VSS) is prone to do this, also how is the transmission fluid is it brownish or dark dark burnt , because if it is its a mechanical failure.I can pull a code if in T.O

This is the typical transmission failure on these. You need a rebuild. The 3/4 gears clutches are burnt up.

TRANSMISSION slips between gears

slipping or flairing between (during shifts) is usually the result of internal seal failure inside trans. you can check fluid level, and / or change trans fluid... if changing, any excessive metal debris or non metallic flakes in the pan indicate need for rebuild. Shifts are controlled by solenoids not by vacuum.
