1985 Ford 250 Diesel Truck, Won't Start

I have a 1985 Ford 250 Diesel Truck, just love it I brought it up from the Coast to the Okanogan and it is much colder here.
It sat for 5 weeks and my Mom’s BF wanted it moved and I did not want to start it as it had not been plugged in, but I did what I was told to try start it cold…I knew better.
Now it won’t start at all, it wants to but just does not have enough life.
I even tried Fire Starter (I know that is not great but I thought after being plugged in for a day I thought it would work)
I think it may have summer diesel in it since we can from warmer weather and I think it is flooded.
So I need to know how to bleed the injectors and I will also add the additive to change it to winter diesel and I think it should start after that as it has warmed up here now.
I have tried bleeding the fuel from the fuel filter under the hood but nothing!!!!
Please help as I would like to fix is asap
Thank you so much!!!!
From the gal that should have known better…lol

I have a similar problem. Mine wont start or even turn over. Does yours turn over? You mentioned something about plugging it in. What are you referring to there? I'm curious to know if I need to plug mine in...Do you have any ideas on how to help me get mine to turn over? Thanks so much!

Diesels need a good battery to spin motor fast especially in cold weather. Also make sure your glow plugs work. For bleeding the system I use a remote starter switch connected to selonoid by passenger fender. Push in valve stem on fuel filter and crank engine until you get a good stream of fuel. Loosen injectors on passenger side maybe one turn. Crank engine to bleed off air. May have to do both sides. I do one side because it has a self bleed sysytem

Have you try-ed the junk yard? Or go on craigslist and ask if anyone is getting ready to junk one then you can get the parts needed before it goes . Sometimes someone may have the same truck just sitting around not running and they will decide to part out.

On a 1985 Ford F250 diesel, with the 4 speed

I would replace fluid and filter. At least the fluid. Old fluid has bad temperature range protection and the inter cooler doesn't help cool the lines much.

Converting ford 460 to 7.3 diesel

wow have you got your work cut out for you
a diesel needs so much more (stuff) than a gas engine
but you'll get better milege with the diesel espesicialy if towing

things right off the top of my head that are different
Power brake booster and master cyl unit
fuel system (yes the entire thing)
EEC for the truck
Electricial system (your gonna need two battery's to fire off the glowplugs)
transmission (torque converter and final drive gearing )
dash gauges (gas tach won't work on a diesel)
tail pipe (4 inch or bigger)

all this stuff is different on a diesel truck

ohh allmost forgot one thing
Front springs Diesels are twice as heavy as it's gas counterpart

hope you got a doaner truck for all this stuff

97 ford 7.3 diesel idles rough and has no power when driving. theres no engine codes all filters are changed, turbo is good. any ideas?

check you fuel heater circuit, in the bottom of your fuel bowl, if it is damaged the computer will not let the truck run right, and will not set any codes.

If a diesel truck sits to long could it damage the fuel pump

Well,
It depends upon the enviroment the truck is stationed in. If you did not drain the truck before parking it for a long time. It tends to block intake valves etc.

I will start my 1985 diesel truck run for about 15 sec then stalls

check the air filter and intake to make sure they aren't restricted. When was the last time you changed the fuel filters? If you can't remember then you should do it now. If you are still having trouble , go down to your local auto parts store and pick up or order a copy of Haynes Diesel Engine Repair Manual, part # 10330. It has a good section on diagnostics as well as repair and maintenance for the 6.9 and 7.3 diesel. Hope this helps.

Both batteries need to be fully charged. Some have solinoids on both the starter and the fender well. Don't use ether in that engine. It can cause engine damage.

Check and see if it has spark, if not replace the DURASPARK module and the distributor stator, worked in a Ford dealer 20 years as a tech and this is the most common problem.
