Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE

1 Answer

My ignition is locked and my car will not go into gear

My name is Denise Wilson and I have a 2001 grand am and it was real cold and I started it one day and did not let it warm up, but I put it in gear and it was hard to do it and drove it straight into my garage which was only about 20 feet away. Then I turned off my car and went to start it again and the key will go in the ignition but won't turn and a mechanic told us to try and put the car in neutral. But it wont do anything. the front wheels are locked but the steering wheel itself is not locked. please if anyone has any ideas email me.

Not sure if this helps, but sounds to me it's a anti-theft problem.
The part (sensor) cost about $250 and it's $300 to have it replaced.
My car would not start at times because the sensor was going bad. Think it's that? I'm just guessing it could be.

I have a 2003 grand cherokee wrangler diesel auto my problem is when it's cold it goes from drive to park smoothly but after driving it sticks at reverse lately i turn the engine of then ignition back

which diesel> why not name it. and the country.????????
and what transmission it has exactly and what 4wd options on car.

sounds like 1 of 2 things.(id have to touch it)
shift cable bad and rusty.
or
the park lock out system. is failing
usually park lock out fails going out of park, (its purpose)
but the parts can fail in odd ways. there are no limits to failure modes
in the real world, as so many think..

or FSM is not much use.
its for 2 gas engines.
but the park lock and such might be the same.
why not go to your dealer and ask for the FSM.
the factory service manual
or get the car serviced.

what id do, is remove the console parts and find what object
is doing the blocking?(cables, or solenoids or what) this is easy.
this puts me ON TRACK to real cause.
nobody here can do that , diagnosis is a hands on eyes on deal.

Computer reads misfire cylinder 2 and 6

Like Ronald Wilson said it could be something linked to the ignition ( ignition coil, spark plugs or spark plug leads ).
No injectors or oxygen sensor.

Car starts when cold and goes dead and won't start until cold again

Sounds like you might have a faulty ignition switch and ignition lock cylinder. These cars are known for the ignition switches getting hot and then they won't start.

Security switch in ignition shorts and my car wont start

very common problem with grand ams. replace ignition lock cylinder and reprogram by turning key on for 10 minutes and when security light stops flashing , start car.

1996 Grand Am intermittently will not let me turn off ignition

Hi..my name is Keith..and if i had to guess without being there to see it for myself..i would guess it to be the ignition switch..and the ignition switch isnt what you put your key into..that is just a lock..and when you rotate that..it pulls on a rod that actuates the real ignition switch..and that switch sounds like it has bad contacts in it..i hope this will help

Ignition locking

This sounds like either a low voltage problem or (bcm) body control module failure.
