Question about 1996 Subaru Legacy

1 Answer

WRX Turbo uses 1 litre of oil every 1000 kilometers.

My son has a WRX Turbo, and has been told by the dealer that the Turbo will use about 1 litre of oil for every 1000 kilometers. I thought that didn't sound right, but I have never had a car with Turbo.

That is a bit much as far as oil consumption for these cars. They do tend to use oil due to the recirculating air intake system from the dump valve on the intercooler and the crankcase breathers. This is normal for a turbo car with this type of system. I have a 2002 WRX with 106,000 miles on it, with extensive modifications, and it only uses about 1/2 a quart in between oil changes.

You didn't mention the mileage on the car?

I have a volkswagon 2008 Eos and have been told by the dealer it is normal for it to use oil. Now I hear a knock coming from the exaust. It has 65000 miles on it just out of warranty.

oil consumption of say 1/2 litre in 5.000miles would be normal even 1 litre in 5.000miles would be ok but any thing else is staring to be excessive. Oil consumption is an indication of a problem with the oil control rings and valve stem seals . Add to that your statement of a knock coming from the exhaust I would be inclined to have a compression test done to determine the condition of the engine . I consider 65.000 miles to be a little young for bad oil consumption so with the noise I would suspect a broken ring and a scored bore

My 2005 Endeavor with 60000 km burns 1 litre of oil every 1000 km at highway speeds, about half that around town. Is this a normal occurrence or is there a problem with the motor?

Not normal, clean burning engine, mine has 220,000 kms's. Are you using a full synthetic oil? Tried it a couple times and it took 1 litre between oil changes. I use semi synthetic oil, no issues. How long has it been burning this amount of oil? Get to your dealer and have him fix your engine.

Hi, it doesn't sound like you have a problem as BMW's can use up to 1 litre of oil per 1000 kilometers, are you using the correct grade of oil?

Oil usage in 2006 passat 2.0 turbo

I had the same problem with my wife's 2006 passat turbo. We lost 2.5 quarts in 3000 miles and the warning light came on. They put us on a 1000 mile oil test and I lost 1.8 more quarts of oil. They finally agreed to replace the rings. Service tech told me that the factory rings are defective, they begin to lead after about 25,000.

I bought a Subaru Impreza STI 2009 model .. What kind of the oil used in this car and is it Syntihtic oil?

i have an 05 sti. its the same motor as the 09. you definitley want to use a high quality full synthetic oil 5w-30. check the level often because it is normal for this car to burn a little oil do to the turbo. especially if you start making performance mods.

Turbo damage on 2005 Volkswagen Passat

Yes, could be related to oil change, using incorrect oil or low oil level. What color is the smoke?
