Transmission problem Hi, I have a problem with my transmission, if I put on drive it will not engage immediately it will engage after 30 sec. or more, every time the engine of my Dodge caravan is cold. May I know what is the problem to be fix? My ATF is new and clean. But if i will put on reverse it will engage automatically. Please help me to solve this problem before the problem will go big. Thank You

Sounds like some of the seals are leaking by in the valve body. Pretty expensive rebuild.

But.......
I recommend a product called KW TransX. (Blue metal container) You can find it at Auto Zone and Advanced Auto Parts. Follow the directions problems will go.

Why does it idle at 2,500-3,000 rpm then drop to 1,000 rpm in drive or reverse?

Hi Paul:
Here are my random observations:
- 2500 to 3000 is really high for "idle"
- Putting it into drive or reverse engages the transmission and puts load on the engine through the torque converter. Since the RPM is high enough that the vehicle thinks it should be moving, the transmission will engage and rpm will drop since more power is needed.
What to do? How long since tuneup?
History? Did this just start immediately, or did it sneak up a bit at a time.
Make, model, engine, year, Kms or miles. Give us some info and someone who is a better transmission specialist will probably kave some more ideas.
Cheers.

Bmw will not start exclamation point on guage

If the exclamation mark is in the middle of a rough circle, then it means the transmission is in safe mode due to malfunction. Put the car in park and engage the parking break. Turn off the engine and wait. After 30 seconds, restart the car. If the light is no longer on, the transmission is back in normal performance. Take it to a mechanic to have things checked out. If the light remains on, the car will only operate in certain gears and driving performance will be limited. The car requires immediate attention from a BMW mechanic and should not be driven any more than necessary to get to the mechanic.might be speed sensor or transmission control module.

Ford escape transmission

Run the fault codes to see if the TCM ( transmission control module) is faulty or servos have failed . have a pressure test done on the box to check operating pressures for the clutch packs and bands.

Frontier 2001 Transmission drive slow to engage.

Could remove & clean the valve body & then
if your still having problems, work on codes if
you have any, or possibly solenoids

I think it is close to rebuild time though

TAKES ABOUT 30 SEC WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE FOR DRIVE TO ENGAGE, WORKS PERFECT ONCE IT IS ENGAGED.

Is this a high mileage engine? Sounds like restricted fluid flow delays engagement. I'd look into changing fluid and filter on the transmission.

I have a 94 Mitsubishi Diamante ES. A month ago I noticed that transmission was getting stemming hot after driving on a high way. I let the car cool down and then nothing happened for about two weeks....

theres a good chance you need a replacemnt transmission. Since this problem is real your only option to get it professionaly inspected . We can guess, but a guess isn't going to fix it.

Hi, I own a 1997 Ford E 350 Econoline, I have the following transmission engagement problem: Truck will not start: Transmission will not engage any gear, neutral or park. The shift lever feels like is not...

The weld on the manual lever is known to break loose. First, with the wheels off the ground, with the lever in the park position, does the drive shaft lock in park? If yes or no sometimes, drop the trans pan. I bet the nut on the lever camd loose.
