Re: where is the vehicle speed sensor located on a 91...
The speed sensor is located on the transmission towards the tail shaft. The housing that encloses the cable will attach on the side of the tranny. At this connection you will find the speed sensor right where it attaches to the tranny. There will be a couple of wires attached to the speed sensor.

You could have a faulty speedometer/odometer combination meter causing a false Vehicle Speed Sensor error.
My 1998 Sienna had the following symptoms:
- Speedometer and odometer failed intermittently
- The check engine light would come on and I would get a p0500 code in the OBDII.
- The cruise control would stop working at the same time the speedometer failed.
There is a speed sensor in each one of the tires and they feed the speed information to the ABS ECU. From the ABS ECU the speed signal goes to the speedometer/odometer combination meter, and from there it goes to the Engine Control Module and to the Cruise Control ECU. I could see a signal coming into the speedometer/odometer, but no signal going out. Replacing the speedometer/odometer combination meter fixed the problem.
You may need another speedometer. The speed sensor sends a signal to both the speedo and the odometer. So if the sensor fails, both meters would stop working. The speedo gets power from the same circuit as the warning lights.
Remove the speedo feed wires on the sensor on the output drive haft and with with vehicle up on stands run angine and check the voltage ,if the voltage will not change with speed the renew it not expensive if the voltage is varable over the speed range then remove the dash unit its all in one and get it repaired around the 200euro mark for a repair
some cars have a speed sensor inserted into the trans. Examine the trans for a snapclip with wiring to it. Make sure there is a good electrical contanct. Good Luck! ____________________ renault+nissan key prog 2 in 1
