Do u have any trouble codes stored in the memory of the control module for the trans? did u have the valve body off? Did you carefully check the electrical connector to the trans, make sure it is clean and fully seated into the trans plug side and that it is locked, have u ruin fluid pressure tests on the system? there are plugs on the trans case to hook up guages.. These are the things we would check in the shop, if u find none of these item's have an issue u will need to pull the trans out and tear it down for inspection

Welcome to Fixya! This is an Internal Problem with the Shift Pattern. You are going to have to get the Shifting Balls Reset, and Overhaul the Bottom Half. Not the Clutches, They should be fine.

When you pulled the pan off, did it have sludge and metal shavings in the bottom of it? If so, you have forward clutch damage. (It don't take very long to burn clutches in these trans.) If not, take the valve body off, clean it up with brake clean and brush, check all your o-rings on your solonoids and wire connections. (GM had some bulletins on this particular valve body.) Let me know what you found and I'll send you a check ball locator where you can put the check balls back in. Check the valve body plate and make sure the holes where the check balls ride are not oblong because they won't seat in a hole that's oblong. Hope this helps. PHil

I have a strong reverse in my 1998 blazer's auto transmission but no foward gears work. Do I need a complete overhaul or change the filter and solenoid?

After making sure trans is full on trans fluid and checks good next try cleaning out the electrical plug, BIG GREY PLUG with lots of wires on the top side of trans, passenger side right next to exhaust. Sometimes they get water in them and short them out causing them to not shift. Also check the fuses inside. Look for shift solenoid. There should at least be one or two. If fuses and plug all check out good it is possible that solenoids are bad. A bad sparg assembly could also cause problem Inside trans. Let me know what you find. If still no forward pull down in first gear and see if it move. If so trans will need to be removed.

I have a 2005 pacifica, it made a pop noise and wouldnt go forward. now it goes forward an not in reverse. i can also hear the gears shifting, could that be the tran. filter? if so where is it located?

may be a trans filter but the pop noise concerns me to but the trans filter is located under the vehicle and you pull the pan down catch all loose fluid 8 quarts or so and then pull filter off then just put new filter in and new gasket rebolt pan to trans and refill with new fluid also clean the magnent off thats in the bottom of the pan

if i helped please give me good rating thank

1985 dodge caravan 3 spd auto trans . there is a module in the front side of the transmission that has 4 pin plug in. the connecting wire is sagging a little and .... Suddenly I lost all but low gear and...

The module is most likely an electronic speed sensor. I doubt that it is to blame for the shifting failure.

Low and reverse gear sometimes share an adjusting band that would explain why they both still work. As for why the other foward gears aren't engaging here are my suggestions.

Make sure the fluid level is good.
Make sure the vacuum line is connected to the shift modulator if applicable.
Make sure tha the shift cable is correctly actuating the shift selector.
Drain the fluid, replace the filter and clean out the pan, install a new pan gasket reinstall the pan and fill with fresh fluid.

Beyond these procedures I suggest that you have it checked out by a technician.

Does the trany fluid smell burnt? Might want to have the trany flushed - torque converter too - and replace the filter in the trans. FYI you may know this but it is not recomended that overdrive be enabled when pulling a trailer - especially a heavily loaded one. Does your town have lots of hills - this is an added stain on the trany.

this means the reverse clutch has failed, u are going to need the trans overhauled to fix the problem and the lines and trans cooler flushed out along with the torque converter.

Trans doesnt like reverse

That is a good trans - damn near bullet proof, change the fluid and filter and replace it with B&M trick shift or ((Hurst Hot Shift fluid)) these fluids preserve the bands and gives firm shifts instead of the lazy slip into gears , you will notice a really big difference in the efficiency of the trans and nice shifts as well - only need to change whats in thew pan, also while you are under there check your linkage because sometimes it needs re adjusted (adjust on the thing that is a round cylindrical thing with a bolt on the side - your shift rod goes through this) have a partner get in ((after)) you loosen the bolt and have them put the needle on the dash centered on the (P) - retighten

Loss of power, transmission not shifting

That orange signal is telling you that your air filter is almost clogged up and the engine is not getting enough air to run porperly. By all means change your air filter. Depending on dust conditions that you drive in, this should be changed every 18 months or so.
