Hesitation on '99 Honda Civic EX

Sometimes when I accelerate from a stop light or stop sign, my car hesitates and jerks, sometimes violently. It hasn't died on me yet, altho it feels like it has wanted to a few times. The problem will usually persist until I arrive at my destination and sometimes won't do it on the way back from wherever I go. There are some days when it does not do this at all.. It seems to be the transmission but I don't know if it doesn't want to shift or it can't find the gear or what. I got some transmission additive and that seemed to work for about a month but then the problem came back. Should I just keep buying the additive (its only 10 bucks and once a month isn't bad) or am I just making the problem worse and the car will eventually give out on me?

Yeah I got the tranny flushed last week and the problem is still persisting. I haven't checked a transmission filter, but I will look into it. Thanks for the help

no lights on the dash, but it almost sounds like it is clunking sometimes when I go from park to drive or from reverse to drive. Actually yeah clunking is the best word to describe it. I got the car used and for everything I have fixed (no transmission cap, pass. window fell off rail into door, got broken into and had to replace drivers side quarter glass) the mechanic who fixed it has told me that that part had been replaced before. So it wouldn't surprise me if a dash light was supposed to be on and it isn't

2002Honda civic ex jerks and hesitates when not accelerating

I would have the catylic convertor checked.
Then have the transmission check . I am guessing the transmission is automatic. The torque convertor could be shuttering when slowing down to a stop.
