SOURCE: when to replace timing belt? what's the avg. cost?

I recommend 60-90K Cost depends on the dealerships labor but usually when your doing a timing belt, radiator hoses and fan belts are removed and should be replaced while your in there. Its about 3hrs, more if other things need to be replaced while in there. So you looking at $300+ for labor only

I've tried everything my alero 2001 still running got

I am assuming you are referring to hot. I don't know what you have tried but if you have done the obvious and flushed the radiator fluid, checked the oil for sludge with water or fluid (meaning head gasket leaks) replaced the thermostat, checked the heater core because hot water travels thru that element, the last thing that might come to mind would be to check if the previous owner didn't shave the head. Some people when they do the head resurface, shave an amount that will change the heat tolerance (if the heads are aluminum) these marks should be scribed on the heads with the amounts they shaved off. This will be the last case scenario because it involves the most costly. Hope this helps. GE

How to change belts on 2002 Nissan Frontier 4 cylinder

2002 frontier 4 cyl: 1) take off air intake tube, 2 screws 13 mm above radiator. 2) 1st belt for power stirring has pulley, undo pulley screw and unscrew adjuster bolt enough to take belt off 3) 2nd belt for alternator and water pump has no pulley but adjusting bolt and mounting bolt on alternator pulley, loosen mounting bolt and unscrew adjusting bolt enough to take belt off, if alternator will not move go under the truck and remove plastic cover- 6 screws 13 mm heads, after that look directly under alt. Pulley and should see a screw head 9/16 in, loosen it so alternator can move, now should be easy to remove belt ( it will be a lot harder to put new one though) 4) 3rd belt for compressor has pulley so follow #2 to remove it ,have to be done under the truck. First 2 belts will have to work around fan blades to remove them so wear gloves. After replacing belts remember that not to over tighten bolt on pulleys.

HEAD GASKET GONE AFTER 12000 MILES

When a h/gasket it done it is usually required to come back in after 1000k,s to be retensioned.A modified gasket is mainly fitted IF the head was shaved or reconditioned.Did they say to bring it back in for the head to be retensioned after the initial fitting? If not,it is their fault. It is the same as a new car.It requires the head gasket to be retensioned after 1000k,s.All cars are the same.Hope this helps you

Timing belt sliped

Normally YES, I would have a new belt fitted and try it just in case. I have had several 'interference' motors break a belt and not damage any valves. Its worth taking a chance before running the expense of pulling the heads off for inspection.

Belts

If its a new replacement not really. Any part that seems to last longer cost more, because they dont sell so many of them. If it's used from a junk yard then its a little pricey.

2002 maxima belt replacement

You will need to gain access behind the inner splash shield to get to your belts. This is relatively simple. It is helpful, also, if you can jack the front of the car up and take the Right Front wheel off and get it out of your way.

The splash shield is held on by plastic push pins that are easy to remove with a small flat head screwdriver by prying behind the head of the center section of the clip.

This should give you easy access to your belts.

Hope this is helpful!!
