fuse is good. Does that mean my pump (internal) is bad? :(

  • 83fxr Jan 14, 2009

What dopey engineer designed That!??! I've always ran it low, but recently have been keeping it at 1/2 min. Thank you. Guess I have to drop the tank now. Bummer. (it Is internal, right?)

do you ever run it below 1/2 to a 1/4 tank? If so replace the fuel pump....90% of the time that is the problem....the fuel cools the pump but once it gets below a 1/2 tank the pump isnt all the way under the fuel...it gets hot and then when you put gas in it the cold fuel kind of shocks the fuel pump causing it to die sooner than usual. Its a GM thing

lol...yes it is a stupid design.....all GM trucks do it. its best to act like 1/2 tank is empty....It will save you time and money in the long run. youre welcome!

a 1997 c1500 doesnt have a carb it is fuel injected, you poured fuel into the throttle body. when you turn the key to the start position and you do not hear the fuel pump you could have a blown fuse. if not, all chevys have passlock a passive antitheft system that have locked the fuel system down. check some remote start companies on the internet you will find one with a wiring diagram, you can figure out the rest from there. its eas

Will not start, does turnover, but seems to be getting no gas. will turn over if i spray auto start in the carborator.

check fuel filter to see if its clogged. (cheapest easiest)
if that doesnt work rebuild carburetor (expensive but fairly simple)
if that doesnt work pull tank if it is low on gas or pull bed if gas tank is full a replace fuel pump (time consuming, hard to do, but fairly inexpensive) I had this problem on a silverado I had and it was the fuel pump.

driver's side under the hood above the brake master cylinder ....should be 2 relays there... it's the outer one... they are identical and you can swap them temporarily to check that your fuel pump relay is working.

Fuel pump stopped

its probally not the relay but it is in the large fuse box under the hood , a rectangular grey or black plastic block. try banging the fuel tank 3 or 4 times fairly hard then try to start the truck. repeat this a couple of times if you truck starts then its the fuel pump its self. chevy s are known for there fuel pumps
