Question about 1999 GMC Suburban

I have a 99 Suburban K2500- I just had Pitman and idler arms replaced, front rotors calipurs and pads, two new tires and alignment about three weeks ago. I started to hear a loud noise and took it back to the shop. They say my Transfer Case is shot. Could the front end work have caused this? The reason I ask is that the same shop resealed the TC less than a year ago, I have not noticed any leaks since then, I do not use the 4WD. The timing seems odd as there was no problem at all w/ the TC before the front end work

I'm not 100% sure if this is the problem.  I would get a 2nd opinion from either another shop or a very good mechanic that you may know.  It does seem ironic that this all of a sudden went out right after they worked on it.  Getting a second opinion may cost a little, but it may pay for itself in the long run.  Your transfer case may just need fluid also.

I'm guesing you have had your tires balanced and wheels aligned. If this does not help, then you have a broken belt in one of your front tires.

The most likely cause is a worn ball and socket (not the 'ball joint' on the suspension) on the Pitman arm for the steering linkage. The steering idler arm's ball and socket may also be worn. The parts are cheap, but it is a PITA to remove the Pitman arm. This can be checked by seeing how much steering wheel play you have before the wheels do anything. Looking at the Pitman arm while doing this may scare you. I drove with a bad one for ~1 year, and was always scared the ball was going to pop out of the socket and result in no steering.

I have a 1994 chevey exstended cab 4 wheel drive it has a vibration in front it seems kije uts there when i accelerate then it kinda goes away but then when i brake and slow down it vibrates worst


sounds like you have a warpped brake rotor, bad ball joint, or a bad tire. I would recommed taking the truck to a tire shop and have them shake down the front end that will tell you if its a tire or ball joint

My 94 Silverado pulls very hard to the right, and is eating up my front left tire like nothing. what other than alignment can be going wrong?


You could have a bad tie rod end, Idler arm, pitman arm, wheel bearing or ball joint. All of these will normally cause a vibration also. Check by jacking the front end one side at a time and moving the tire back and forth on front and back and in and out on top and bottom. Either watch or have someone else watch the steering assembly for movement and where it is. If there is no unusual movement, it is more than likely an alignment problem or tire problem.

How to replace a idler arm and pitman arm need to replace it on my 98 gmc suburban 4x4


You will need the proper tools to remove them which can be rented at auto parts stores. The pitman arm has to pulled off with an pitman arm puller also have to drop steering box I believe to change it. I know we did on my 1996 Tahoe the idler arm can be seperated with a front end fork also available at parts store. You just drive it between the idler arm and tie rod after removing castle nut and cotter pen.

How to change the pittman arm and idler arm on a 1999 S10 Chevy Blazer 4x4?


Pitman arm requires a pitman arm puller, and a tie rod seperator or "pickle fork". Remove the cotter pin on from the joint on the pitman arm and center link, then remove the nuts from both ends of pitman arm. Use the pitman arm puller to remove the pitman arm from the steering gear, then use the tie rod seperator to remove the end from the center link. Reinstall and retighten nuts, do not leave out the cotter pin.
Idler arm will require tie rod seperator. Remove the cotter pin from the end at the center link, use the tie rod seperator to seperate the joint there. Unbolt the idler arm from the frame, and remove. On reinstalling remember to install a new cotter pin. It would be best to have the front end alignment checked after replacing these parts.

You could have a worn idler arm and pitman arm. The idler arm is more common to wear out before the pitman arm so start with that and have the front end aligned. Inspect all your front end steering components for damaged and worn out parts that need to be replaced.

How to replace iddle arm and pitman arm on a 1986 g20 van


jack up and support van passenger side first with wheels straight remove wheel unbolt idler arm from center link and using a fork designed for removing front end parts some auto stores let u borrow / loan u fork remove idler arm unbolt (2) from frame replace and bolt in new one replace wheel other side wheels straight jack and remove wheel mark pitman at steer box so u can transfer mark to new pitman unbolt and us fork to remove pitman from center link us pulley to remove pitman transfer marks to new arm align up replace bolt up replace wheel done

98 z71 pulling to the right


tire pressure low,alignment jack up the front end and wobble the tires side to side the body lift would not effect this

Very unlikley,these trans cases use auto trans fluid and are prone to leak easily
