Just started the other day. In morning starts fine, but after driving it for several miles, engine shuts off when I take my foot off gas. starts right back up but won't stay running.

I have a 1999 2.4 L Caravan with same issue. While driving, car will stop when foot removed from gas - no warning lights - will start up fine. Has occured once/day for last several days.

another possible problem is the thermostat. If stuck open, the engine cannot warm up properly, with the end result of the computer being thrown for a loop and not sending out the proper signals. This is a fact as it happened in my 1998 3.0 Caravan.

I had a problem with my caravan similar to yours. everyone had all these great ideas yet couldn't get it to run right. i finally took out the CAM sens.. it has magnetic pick-ups and they had a few very small pieces of metal attached between them thus not allowing correct communication. I cleaned off the metal used a small pen like magnet to remove any inside motor and the van has run great ever since.

When you try to start it back up, have you tried very slightly pressing on the accelerator and trying to start it? If it does start, but dies as soon as you let up on the pedal, dollars to donuts the IAC (idle air control) passageway is blocked or the IAC motor is bad (should throw out a check engine light though).

1998 Honda Accord engine rumbles and stops

rumbles?, did the RPM drop below 800 RPM? that is called idle failure
and when it does, idle can go to 400 rpm and will shake hard.
and is normal for illegal idle speeds. so post that first.
post that engine stalls
and that the RPM is 400-500 just before the stall.
then post if the fast right foot can save the stall (a key test !!!!)
if easy the ISC is sticking.
if tad hard the EGR is stuck open'
if impossible to save. then more possible (many)

You need to have the engine control computer scanned for fault codes, if nothing shows then it is very possible you have a failing fuel pump.

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with the 4.0L. It has approximately 150k miles on it. I started the Jeep with 1/4 tank of fuel in it and it started rough and acted like it was going to die....

long post.
ill reduce it for you.
misfires. (is RPM below 700 then misfire can be normal) for idle speed controls dead.
ISC the isc controls speed, of idle,.
mine stuck like zillion times, in 400k miles. endless.sticking
mine was a tiny gutless stepper motor drive ISC valve.
the cone valve is side gets nasty and sticks (
(PCV gases caused as seen on all engines)
i clean it.
the proof is the easy press of right foot easy raises idle back to 700rpm and engine stops misfiring.
ever get a tuneup this decade or running spark parts 500,0000 miles
for the new world record.?

now the tricky part of ISC, , fully explained in the SM serv. man.
the PCM learns its behaviors.
it learns all hot start settings and cold
so when you key on, it goes to the correct HISTORICAL spot.
if it can move there(sticks) engine car race.
or run too slow,
cold start would be worse, as hot isc is more closed
so if sticks there closed, the next cold start will be horrid
some newer manuals telly you to add 5% throttle if car is hard starting this is so common.

clean it. end story.
ISC

Starting problem for 1999 Lexus GS300

make sure the air filter lid has been put back into proper place, if they left it loose the engine would **** more air while trying to start, so you need more fuel to balance it out.
