Speedometer recently went out on my 99 eclipse, i have replaced the vss and the speedo and i still have nothing. all the other gauges work, am i overlooking something else?

well cruise goes dead for huge list of reasons ( it's dangerous;)
and speedo dead tops that list so forget cruise and fix speedo.
SPEEDO DEAD:
on modern cars the speedo head, aka IP cluster is now a computer
and talks on a network if the network dies, so does speed,(and more)
are other gauges dead???????????
or the VSS rear sensor dies.
well, we check fuses first and OBD2 scan the car next and behoid
DTC errors tell you why it did.
vss dead
can-bus network dead.or posting lots of errors.
etc.

You either need to use the manual ECM or there may be a way to bridge/bypass the speed sensor module that was connected to the auto box (you may also need the manual speedo cluster as well). I'm not having much luck with finding the precise wiring for your swap but I spotted this (no idea if it's gonna be helpful though...) -

There is a gear that drives the sensor gear much like the old speedo cable gear.
If you connected the sensor and the check engine light went off, chances are the sensor is working.

Well you know it does not have a speedo cable since you replaced the speed sensor in the transmission.
My guess would be a problem with the speedo or cluster.

check the connection from speedometer to transaxle. Often this becomes loose, especially the transaxle side. Also 92 was a first year model and have heard many wacky problems.

the speedo could be the sensor on the gearbox the lights not working could be the bulbs have blown

This is caused by the little circuit board that runs the speedo or a Vehicle Speed Sensor problem, have any Kragen auto or Auto Zone run a trouble code test to see if a VSS trouble code is present in the memory, if nothing shows replace the speedometer or have it repaired, if there is a code for the VSS replace the sensor on the transmission.

I have the same problem with my 300zx currently. You need to replace the gauge cluster. The speedo itself in the cluster is really expensive and hard to replace. Look for one on eBay. Make sure to get the correct year though!
