Question about 1995 Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

Stalling throughout driving speeds or dies when comming to a stop

I have a 1995 pontiac sunfire and has over 150k miles. After replacing the head gasket and entire top end of engine's gaskets. I have come across a stalling issue, where it seems to loose power while driving at highway speeds, or will try and stall and die when coming to a stop. Not sure what is going on no engine lights come up either so no way to check through obd2. Seems to get worse the longer you drive the car, and milage has gotten really bad as well. The filter and pump check just fine through shop and had to replace one injector that was "sticking open". What else could be causing this?

Ill give that a shot, near as i can tell the gaskets for both upper and lower intake are solid.

OK tried that no change in rpm when using starter spray with ether. There is no rotor has coil pack in it that tested as good per manual. Anything else that can be thought of.

Some cars have this problem when the intake manifold is loose or drawing air or the roteror cap may be defect, to check your manifold ,with a cold running moter spray a bit of starter spray (with eather) along the intake manifold , if it's leaking the moter will increase in rpm.

2000 pontiac sunfire 5 speed manual transmission with 40,000 miles on the clutch started slipping what's going on with it

a clutch can wear out in a couple hundred miles if not driven properly or abused-at 40,000 miles it is highly possible that the clutch disk is worn to the point that it needs to be replaced. You might be able to get away with driving it but avoid driving it is such a way that it slips-if you can hear the engine running 'ahead' of the car (revving faster than you are moving) get off the gas-especially in higher gears. If you do this until you can get the clutch replaced, you should be able to nurse it along for months.

1992 pontiac boneville, keeps stalling

Have you chg.fuel filter and had a fuel pressure test done? Does it have spark after it stalls? Fuel pumps are a common problem, they work when cold get warmed up they quit, after a while quit all together. Do the fuel pressure test.

I replaced the head gasket on my 97 Sunfire it doesn't start

If your timing is off you will have no power.check and make sure all timing mark's are correct. Some engine's are contact motor's,which mean's if your timing is off you could cause damage to valve's or piston's.Also you should do a compression test to be sure each cylinder has adequite pressure.Hope this help's.

Sure sounds like the engine has a failed bearing, most likely a rod bearing, the engine will need to be pulled out and repaired or replaced depending on how much damage you have done driving it.

96 sunfire dies after 4 or 5 miles

if none of those worked, try the fuel filter. some times it can clog. when you stop the stuff falls too the bottom and then when you start it is clogs it back up so it wont run. then you have to wait for it to fall again.
