Question about 1999 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

Trailer lights I have a 1999 ford F150 and when i plug my trailer in only the brake light and blinkers work. I have no other lights work. When i hook up another trailer to my truck same thing happens to his brand new trailer. So obviously there is something wrong with my truck. Is this a fuse issue or something worse?

Probably just a bad connection @ one wire on the truck. What do u have for a plug on the back of the truck, 4, 6, 7 way connector?

the fuses are good but I am not getting any power to the plug at the back of the truck. What am I missing. Is there something else that could be wrong

7 way connector, running lights, including license plate light, should be a brown wire. Check the back of the plug receiver on the truck, u are going to have to follow it to see if it's mashed, cut, not connected properly to connector, or loose, corroded, or dirty connections at any splice. That should be the problem. Let me know what u find.

Wiring diagram from truck to trailer

Get a tester light the type with an alligator clip and a sharp point.
Check each wire for your brake lights, blinkers etc.
i.e. With the blinker light on find the correct wire and splice into it with the corresponding light on the trailer. ( DO NOT CUT THE TRUCKS WIRE)
Remove the covering and twist the plug wires around it and tape or shrink wrap if you can.
Hope this helps

Pressing brake causing blinker issue

The trailer harness that was installed probably has a short inside the box that distributes power to the trailer pig-tail. Remove the trailer harness. You problem will be cured.

Tow plug

I take it the blinkers and brake lights work ok when not hooked up to the trailer? If yes, then the wiring to the tow hitch is not hooked up correctly. How many wires to trailer pig tail connection? U can have up to 7 depending on what you tow. Check to make sure these wires are hooked up from the truck to tow plug correctly: 7 wired---
brown-Rt turn and brake light, yellow-backup, white-ground, blue-electric brake, green-tail running lights, black-battery charger, red-left turn signal and brake light. Let me know if u have something other than 7 wire, I'll get the wiring color and source info for u.
