Question about 2006 Toyota Tacoma

1 Answer

Tacoma temp meter failed

The temp/compass meter also stopped working on my 2006 Tacoma. I don't believe it's a fuse issue because if I tap on it it will come on for a few seconds and then go off again. I'm thinking its a short maybe caused by cold weather or something. It also could be a conspiracy since I just turned over 60K miles and my warranty has expired.....probably some sort of Japanese timer in it that causes it to fail after 60K miles! Anybody found a solution because I can't figure out how to remove it.

I have the same problem and it happend to me just as you described. I took it apart by taking out the screw behind the sunglass holder, and then pull down on the front of it. It is held in place with compression clips. Whan I looked at the board, there was a chip with the number 510 on it that had come loose and was hanging down. The board is mounted upside down and it looks like the solder didn't hold. I plan to take it to the dealer tomorrow to see what they say. It looks like a design issue to me.

Light has gone out on the console display for compass and temp on the 2006 Toyota Tacoma headliner. Trying to find out which fuse to replace

2005-2009 Toyota Tacoma Overhead Console Fuse test
* does your cruise control work?
* do you brake lights work?
* does your dome light work?
The 10 amp IGI #2 fuse controls several other components including the dome light, cruise control, and
brake lights. If these are working but the compass is dim, intermittent, or dead then the control module
has gone bad.
This is a very common problem with the 05-09 Tacoma. The console is very prone to internal failure. I offer a reasonable repair service with a lifetime guarantee, check it out: www.autoclockrepair.com
There is a bunch of useful info there. Drop me an email if you have questions, thanks!

The compass and outside temp on my 2006 Toyota Tacoma quit working. Is there a fuse for this unit and where would I find it?

Are your cruise control, dome, and tail lights also out? If so then it is a fuse. If not then the control unit has gone bad internally. You may be able to get it fixed under your warranty.
If it is not covered by your warranty, check out

The 10 amp IGI #2 fuse controls several other components including the dome light, cruise control, and brake lights. If these are working but the compass is dim, intermittent, or dead then the control module has gone bad. You can get a replacement from toyota but I believe it costs $500+.

2006 toyota tacoma copmas/temp out.

My '05 Tacoma had the same problem, and the display was all dark.

Take the assembly down (unplug the connectors, etc, of course). Remove the PC board which has the circuitry for temp and compass. Mine had a surface-mount resistor "lifted" from its spot on the board (making an open circuit). I thought too much current probably made it too hot, and the thing broke loose and it was ready for the electronic graveyard. I carefully pushed it back to the board and re-soldered the end. Once reassembled and installed it worked again ... and still does 3 months later.

Good luck!
