Question about 1999 Mitsubishi 3000GT

1 Answer

Hi I'm in the uk and I have a *** spec 3000gt and it keeps cutting out, I have checked the earth leads , I believe its an electrical problem because all the vacuum valves at the bulkhead are switching on and off very quickly, the car can be revved to about 4000rpm for about 10 seconds then it cuts out, is there a power supply / relay for the ecu, fuel pump and if so where is it? any help would be appreciated

If you're gettign a lot of clicking, it coulod be your ECU. Go to 3si.org and do a search for ecu replacement. It's located in your centre console. The 92-94s had capacitor problems, but yours is much later, so without more information, it's hard to fully diagnose your problem.

I changed the battery on my QX56. The car is turning over but won't start. What should I do?

Was the car starting before you changed the battery..?
Check your battery leads particularly the black earth where it attaches to the engine block/bodywork.

There's many causes of non-starting, and no one on Fixya would be able to give you a definite answer.

Non starting can be caused by electrical sensor failures. The best - and cheapest - option is to ask a mobile mechanic to do a diagnostic check for you and identify the problem.

Non starting can also be caused by a faulty fuel pump.

2007 ignition coil keeps cracking

The crack you refer to is a carbon track laid down by the high tension spark jumping to earth from the coil tower, caused by a damp atmosphere and a bad insulator on the king lead, the carbon track can be scratched out or filed off and then coated with ladies nail polish, problem solved till the next time! Could try a coil cover, if you can't get hold of one, get a rubber glove and cut one of the fingers down to make a tight fit round the lead, then tape the glove over the coil tower. (that's a trick that works in rainy Manchester UK)

Hi, I have a 2006 Renault Clio 1.2 16v. I have a problem with the electrics: the passenger side lights keep blowing the fuse, also the dash illumination does'nt light up. I understand this is a earth...

Most cars have standard earth points such as eyelets on the side of the motor and from the negetive lead on the battery to the body. Search google for a loom layout for your model and check the earth points If there fine try running a new earth from the problem accessorys to the body of your car hope I helped ;)

VW POLO 1.9CL Diesel 1997 wont start

hi from uk check the main lead from battery+positive to the starters solenoid is secure ? also there is a thin wire that also connects to solenoid on a terminal of its own this is the solenoid energizing wire that works starter when key start position is selected if all above is ok? then use a jump lead and connect one end to battery negative post then the other end of lead to a suitable earth point on engine ? then try starting? if it works/starts ? you have a bad earth connection to engine from battery negative lead check the earth lead connection at point on engine is clean/secure ? it usually is secured by bolt at point where engine and transmission connect ? hope this helps?

Although its had a new battery and alternator it will not start without jump starting off another car

hi from uk if you are connecting jump leads the correct way ? ie positive from doner battery? to positive on your battery ? then the negative from doner battery must be connected to the engine of your car at a suitable point/earth (not to the negative battery terminal) ? if your car starts ok then try this remove jump leads from your battery then just connect a jump lead from your negative /eart terminal and the other end to the engine if car starts with this ? then your problem is the vehicles earth lead from battery is either loose/broken or corroded? check its connections at battery and the point it connects to engine usually with a bolt that connects clutch housing to rear of engine ? on most cars in fact may i suggest you checkall other earth cables/leads too these are thinner and connect at car body and to engine these are common faults that affect the various sensors for engine half the time due to poor or corroded connections to body hope this helps ?

Horn, wipers and indicator lights all not working after gearbox change

hi from uk the fact you mention g/box has been changed would suggest that your probs with electrics would point to either an earth cable from battery to the body/chassis has not been refitted after g/box removal/refit or the lead that provides power for electrics which connects to the starter solenoid on the same connection as the positive + lead from battery is either loose or not connected ? with horn/wipers /lights not working these components get their earth from the cars body/chassis however is it possible that starter lead was disconnected b4 disconnecting the battery earth lead ??? thn accident of shorting to earth(spark ) which would blow the fuses for these components ? check em out ?

91 mitsubishi gto has random engine cut out.

Does this car have its original ECU? I ask this because this and a number of early 1990s Mitsubishi cars/truckas had isses with capaciors leaking. In truth I believe it is a matter of when and not if. As the ECU begins to fail the engine can begin to run poorly ( I speak from experience after changing both ECUs in my Montero and my son's Doge Stealth (3000GT) ) I did have an issue too with my son's Stealth running poorly, by good luck I happened to be looking under the hood with poor lighting and noticed a faint blue spark from the wiring leads by the coil after a good look I fould a wire would ground out when the engine was throttled; this caused the engine to torque slightly causing the wire to rub and finally ground out.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

My 3000gt does not start. it makes a clicking

1. Loose battery or earth connections on bodywork/engine.

2. Starter stuck in mesh. (rock car backwards and forwards in gear to free)

3. Solenoid stuck. Tap lightly with a hammer.

4. Starter relay in or near fuse box faulty. Replace relay.

Electrical

may i please ask? is this problem related to the battery failing to start engine? ie turns slow ? or not turn over? suspect battery? changed battery still same prob ? changed alternator suspect not charging ? still prob exists ?? so you have eliminated these?and drive belt is tight ? when ?i assume you have to start? do you use jump leads? and starter works ? if so using this method advise you check the earth/ground lead from battery to where it connects to engine? and ensure clean/secure ? also there may be another earth lead from engine to chassis ? if these are not good condition as above then intermittant sarting problems occure especially from initial cold start giving suspect battery of failing to charge battery indicated by poor starter operation if you could give any info as to what happens that suspect not charge would assist on exactly is happening to your vehicle best wishes from uk

Electrical Problem

This sounds like a bad Earthing point off the ignition, fuse boards or battery, check ALL connections to the battery and earthing connections througout the vehicle, a long process, OR, you can take it to a vehicle electrician and pay them, the easiest solution is the latter.
