2005 Porsche Boxtser S - PSM & ABS Failure

Just tried to get into my car and the electronic key doesn't work. Used the manual key lock to get in, alarm sounded, alarm stopped, sat down and put key in ignition and it won't start. Warning said the PSM and ABS had failed and that it needed to be taken to the Workshop. The spoiler went up and is now locked in the up position. What has happened???? Only used the car 3 weeks ago and it was fine. Now it won't start. It also keeps saying that 'the ignition key has not been removed'. Very odd.

Cheers!

Sid
I left an mp3 charger hooked up to the cigarette lighter during xmas break now i come back and the battery is drained. The car wont start even when jumped with another car. LIghts come on, the PSM failure and ABS failure messages come on, the spoiler went into the up position and stays there, and when I turn the key the lights flicker and the car sounds like Tschk Tschk Tschk but wont start.

the only thing that will make the check engine light flash is a misfire fault that exceeds a predetermined misfire allowance in the pcm (computer) programming. the heater thing is just a coincidence. when was the last time the plugs/wires were replaced? check and see if plugs wires are arcing anywhere. rattle sounds like an exhaust resonator or muffler, or maybe a heat shield on the exhaust manifolds.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

As in most vehicles, the "Tschk Tschk Tschk" indicates a weak battery where the starting solenoid is engaging but not enough power (from the battery) to turn the starter motor. Initially, have the battery charged externally. Pls be reminded that some car stereos would go into security/protective mode when the battery is disengaged and would require entry of a security code.

All the other faults as you described could well be attributed to low battery power hence erroneous sensor/trigger readings and the on board electronics failing.

Check and perform preliminary visual or necessary inspection. Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

The ABS/PSM warning light on my 2003 Boxster came on, stays on. Specialized Mechanic said it was the ABS Hydraulic control module, extremely expensive and not available in US. Car has only 55K mile. Is it...

Yes you can still drive it. When the ABS system fails, it reverts to the old system. Meaning that when and if you hit the brakes hard enough, the wheels could lock and skid. By releasing them they will roll again. We drove forever with out ABS and most of us are still alive.

I HAVE A 2002 PORSCHE BOXTSER S CHANGED THE BATTERY AND CAR HAS NO POWER AT ALL HOW DO I FIX IT

You will need to reset the throttle potentiometer by switching on the ignition (to second position) for at least one minute then switch off before starting the engine. - do not press throttle during the one minute wait.

Detailed battery changing instructions are available in the workshop manuals which can be downloaded for free (in pdf format) from http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm

My Porsche Key fob no longer unlocks the doors

Insert key into door barrel or ignition lock and turn key, whilst doing this press the unlock/lock button, the led on the dash should flash to indicate this has initialised the key to the car, then remove key and test operation of remote. If this fails then a new remote plus coding to the car by your dealership is needed

Compurter says PSM and ABS failure - Porsche Boxster 08/2002

Hi,

Just had same problem this morning. I had noticed that the satnav was malfunctioning (i.e. developed a mind of its own!!) a couple of days ago and then this morning PSM/ABS failure......marvellous!! Anyway, simply disconnected battery, waited 10-15 mins, reconnected battery and hey presto my boxster fired up. However the PSM failure message still showed, so took it for a spin around the block and the message disappeared and, touch wood, everything seems back to normal. I think it must have been a battery problem, so just to safe I am going to get a new battery and hopefully I can look forward to years of trouble free motoring.....one day with the roof down!!!! (Where has the sunshine gone!!!????)

PSM failure with Boxster

I had these problems on my 2005 911 when the battery died. Apparently when it goes IT GOES. I had no problem with the battery until this time and then suddenly it was dead.

I've heard since that this is common on Porsche 996 when the battery is dead and then is should also be the case with the 986 Boxter since these 2 share a lot of components.

I removed the old battery and left the car without a battery for at least 30 minutes (while doing some other maintainance). Put a new battery in and no problems after that. On most cars if you disconnect the battery for like 15 minutes the maintainance computer resets its self and all warninglights should dissapear unless there is a real fault, then the appropriate light should come back on!

Good luck.
Slick.
