1991 ford f250 5.8l VIN H

I HAVE A CODE 32 AND 35. I HAVE REPLACED THE EGR VALVE,THE EVR SOLENIOD,AND THE EVP SENSOR. THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A DPFE SENSOR.I HAVE MANIFOLD VACUUM TO THE EVR SOLENOID,BUT THE SOLENOID DOES NOT SEEM TO BE SUPPLYING VACUUM TO THE EGR VALVE. I HAVE POWER TO THE SOLENOID BUT NO GROUND.THE GROUND, I THOUGHT CAME FROM THE PCM, I REPLACED THE PCM AND STILL NOT WORKING. CAN YOU HELP ME.

In all the technical data I have access to Snap-on, Mac, AllDATA and most service manuals all tell you to start with a wiggle test and clean all grounds.
Wiggle test means wiggle the wires and connectors while te engine is running and see if there is a change in performance. I suggest unplugging the connectors one by one and doing a visual inspection on them, look for green corrosion rust oxydized connections etc, add a little bit of di-electric grease and plug it back in, for the grounds that are bolted on remove these but be careful not to break off the rusty ones then use 400 grit sandpaper and shine up the mating surfaces add some di-electric grease and re install. Before you start to clean the connectors and grounds remove the neg off the battery, it will reset the check engine light if left unplugged for 30 mins

DTC 3-4 at idle means the EVP voltage is above the closed limit.
Translation: The EVP sensor (EGR valve position) is unplugged or the wiring between it and the computer has an open. The EVP sensor has a 3-wire plug on it, and you can find the EVP on top of the EGR valve (that's the metal mushroom between the intake and a pipe coming from the driver side exhaust manifold (on a v-8)).
It's also possible that the EVP sensor is bad (open).

Usually it is a defective DPFE (differential pressure feedback Exhaust) But, it can also be caused by a defective EGR valve or EVR (Exhaust Valve Regulator) solenoid/switch. --or an air leak at any part of the system including the silicone hoses that feed the DPFE/

I need written instructions for installing an EGR Valve on a 96 Ford Exploer Eddie Bauer V6 4.0 engine. Trying to pass emission inspection.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

PFE/DPFE Sensor
This component is found on all engines, and is also referred to as the backpressure transducer.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Detach and label the wiring harness connector from the PFE/DPFE sensor.
  3. Disconnect all of the hoses from the sensor.
  4. Remove the mounting nuts, then separate the sensor from the mounting bracket.
  5. If necessary, remove the EVR solenoid and the PFE/DPFE mounting bracket from the upper intake manifold.
To install:
  1. If removed, install the EVR solenoid and mounting bracket onto the upper intake manifold.
  2. If applicable, install the EGR tube heat shield.
  3. Position the PFE/DPFE sensor on the mounting bracket, then install and tighten the mounting nuts until snug.
  4. Attach all necessary hoses and wiring to the sensor.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) Solenoid
The EVR solenoid is mounted either on the same bracket as the PFE/DPFE sensor, attached to the upper intake manifold, or near the EGR valve on its own bracket.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Label and detach the wiring harness connector from the EVR solenoid.
  3. Detach the main emission vacuum control connector from the solenoid.
  4. Remove the retaining nuts, then separate the solenoid from the mounting bracket.
To install:
  1. Position the solenoid on its mounting bracket and install the retaining nuts.
  2. Attach the main emission vacuum control connector and the wiring harness connector to the EVR solenoid.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.

EGR Valve
See Figures 6 and 7
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If necessary, remove the air inlet tube from the throttle body and air cleaner housing.
  3. Label and detach all vacuum hoses from the EGR valve.
  4. Label and detach any electrical wiring harness connectors from the EGR valve.
  5. Disconnect the EGR valve-to-exhaust manifold tube from the EGR valve.
  6. Remove the EGR valve mounting fasteners, then separate the valve from the upper intake manifold.
  7. Remove and discard the old EGR valve gasket, and clean the gasket mating surfaces on the valve and the intake manifold.

To install:

  1. Install the EGR valve, along with a new gasket, on the upper intake manifold, then install and tighten the mounting bolts to 4-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm) on 3.8L engines, or to 106-49 inch lbs. (1-18 Nm) on 5.0L engines.
  2. Connect the EGR valve-to-exhaust manifold tube to the valve, then tighten the tube nut to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm).
  3. Connect all wiring or hoses to the EGR valve.
  4. Install the air inlet tube.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

EGR flow in our 2000 Ford Expedition is insufficient. What does this mean?


Exhaust gas recirculation flow reduced. Could be caused by valve or gunk in the flow path. I'll paste a little bit about troubleshooting below. If you need specific instructions for repairing your system, please reply with your engine size/type.

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system is designed to reintroduce exhaust gas into the combustion chambers, thereby lowering combustion temperatures and reducing the formation of Oxides of Nitrogen (NO x ).
The amount of exhaust gas that is reintroduced into the combustion cycle is determined by several factors, such as: engine speed, engine vacuum, exhaust system backpressure, coolant temperature, throttle position. All EGR valves are vacuum operated. The EGR vacuum diagram for your particular vehicle is displayed on the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label.
The EGR system is Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) system, controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and composed of the following components: DPFE sensor (also referred to as the backpressure transducer), EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) solenoid, EGR valve, and assorted hoses.


COMPONENT TESTING

DPFE Sensor

  1. Disconnect the pressure hoses at the DPFE sensor.
  2. Connect a hand vacuum pump to the downstream pickup marked REF on the sensor.
  3. Using a multimeter, backprobe the SIG RTN circuit at the DPFE connector.
  4. With the ignition ON , signal voltage should be 0.20-0.70 volts.
  5. Apply 8-9 in. Hg of vacuum to the sensor. Voltage should be greater than 4 volts.
  6. Quickly release the vacuum from the sensor. Voltage should drop to less than 1 volt in 3 seconds.
  7. If the sensor does not respond as specified, check the power and ground circuits.
  8. If power and ground circuits are functional, the sensor is faulty.

EGR Valve Control Solenoid
  1. Remove the EVR solenoid.
  2. Attempt to lightly blow air into the EVR solenoid.
    1. If air blows through the solenoid, replace the solenoid with a new one.
    2. If air does not pass freely through the solenoid, continue with the test.

  3. Apply battery voltage (approximately 12 volts) and a ground to the EVR solenoid electrical terminals. Attempt to lightly blow air, once again, through the solenoid.
    1. If air does not pass through the solenoid, replace the solenoid with a new one.
    2. If air does not flow through the solenoid, the solenoid is OK.

  4. If the solenoid is functional but the problem still exists, check the power and ground circuits.

EGR Valve
  1. Install a tachometer on the engine, following the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Detach the engine wiring harness connector from the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid.
  3. Disconnect and plug the vacuum supply hose from the EGR valve.
  4. Start the engine, then apply the parking brake, block the rear wheels and position the transmission in Neutral.
  5. Observe and note the idle speed.

If the engine will not idle with the IAC solenoid disconnected, provide an air bypass to the engine by slightly opening the throttle plate or by creating an intake vacuum leak. Do not allow the idle speed to exceed typical idle rpm.
  1. Using a hand-held vacuum pump, slowly apply 5-10 in. Hg (17-34 kPa) of vacuum to the EGR valve nipple.
    1. If the idle speed drops more than 100 rpm with the vacuum applied and returns to normal after the vacuum is removed, the EGR valve is OK.
    2. If the idle speed does not drop more than 100 rpm with the vacuum applied and return to normal after the vacuum is removed, inspect the EGR valve for a blockage; clean it if a blockage is found. Replace the EGR valve if no blockage is found, or if cleaning the valve does not remedy the malfunction.

How to replace egr valve on 1995 crown vic 4.6. Valve is in hard place to get to.


On 1995 Crown Victoria the EGR valve is located at the rear of the engine compartment. While the attaching bolts can be gotten out with a little bit of a problem the egr tube that atteches the EGR valve to the right exhaust manifold is a pain. It is possible to do though. Here are the removal and installation instructions. If you are sure that the EGR valve is the reason for any check engine light then you can remove the battery cable for about five minutes to reset the light, but if the light is on for a differant reason then you just got rid of the code plus any freeze frame data that a shop could have used to diagnose the problem.

This code is an EGR code for insufficient amount of egr. It could be that the egr tube is clogged or the egr itself is bad or there is not enough vacuum to open the egr properly. There is also a sensor called the DPFE(differential pressure feedback egr) is faulty.

there is a pressure feed back sensor going bad all the times
also check the two hoses connected to this sensor for crack or blockage
check the pipe that goes to the egr valve for crack
it won't hurt to pull the egr valve back out to check to see if there is any thing cause the valve to stay open
