Fuse blowing mg zr, 1.4. 2005. the fuse for the rear lights, driver side, and number plate light keeps blowing, any suggestions???

Look at the wires behind your marker light, especially at the back where there are more stones hitting. You probably have a bare wire or two.

Take a hard look at the starter solenoid causing the problem. (Electrical short in solenoid). hope this will help you.

if you cannot find a diagram of the box just start going through all the fuses and pulling then inspect them to see if the filament is broken and then put it back in if it is ok then move on to the next one

If it's a 1.4 then it's likely to be headgasket failure. There is a thicker headset available as this is a noted problem....
Talk to Rimmer Bros (google it) and they'll help you get the part.

fuses blow because of dead shorts or excess current draw
to blow a 15 amp fuse indicates a dead short
by disconnecting the rear lights , the problem is in something else you have replaced
could be a problem in the head light wiring

My front park light and rear brake light on the drivers side keep blowing the fuse everytime I replace it then turn the lights on can someone please help


Likely there is a short somewhere on that circuit. Suggest you start by checking the bulbs and their connections. Might just be a loose connector.

Mg zr common faults


Bad cabling.
You need to check earth for the motor.
If you are getting bad earth then it will overload the fuse.

use a light circuit breaker in place of the fuse, then check harness for short to ground, start with tail light harness, or trailer wiring if so equiped

Mgzs horn not working checked fuses


Own an MG Rover built after August 2003? Is one of the following not working:
Horn? Drivers electric window? Central Locking? Fog lights? Intermittent wipers?
It is very likely going to be one or several of the Pektron relays in the SCU unit that have gone. The relays are readily available for about £5 each on the web. It can all be fixed in under a day with some soldering tools, sockets, patience and perseverance.
Such a shame one small component, not even made by Rover, have just a detrimental effect on electrical reliability.
Here we fix a 2004 MG ZR but the Pektron relay are also used in the MG ZS, Rover 25 45 and MGF, so the general instructions are also applicable to them. Just the location of the SCU unit will vary.
On the MG ZR with a/c most garages will say the a/c has to be degassed etc (more cost) but here we leave the a/c connected. The SCU unit can just about be wiggled out from behind the a/c evaporator(radiator) unit with it still connected if some of the pipes clamps are loosened.

License Plate light dont work


Hi Merido, If the fuse is blowing in the center try using a fuse with a higher rating. If the fuse is blowing towards the side, you have a short circuit. If the rear lights are working correctly the problem will be between the tail lamp wiring and the number plate. look for anywhere on the harness which may be rubbing against the body of the car. It should not be too dificult to find the fault and rectify it. Regards John

Renault Clio dashboard and side light blow fuse??


I found a solution to my problem on the Internet and it worked a treat

My problem was that the dashboard and both rear lights would not turn on, but the fuses were okay and nothing had been changed

It turns out that in the passenger footwell there are a few relays right in the footwell where a person would put their feet. At first it was suggested that you push your feet really hard against the front of the footwell to see if that helps, and it did, but the lights went out again later. So it was then suggested that you look for a loose relay box where the feet go (on the left hand side at the top of the footwell, nearish to the bonnet release catch). It turns out there are 2or3 relay boxes there. SImply push each one to ensure that it is correctly seated, and voila the lights work perfectly again.

A simple fix that costs nothing, saves a potentially costly visit to a garage, and can be undertaked without any tools are even needing to open the bonnet.

May not solve the problems of those blowing fuses etc, but certainly worked a treat for me
