2006 buick lacrosse - speedometer stopped working properly

On my 2006 buick lacrosse - the speedometer registers way ahead of the actual speed. Just say, if I am traveling at 40 miles per hour, the speedometer registers 70 or 80 miles per hour.

Sounds like you need to replace your speedometer cable that runs from your dash to your transmission.

SOURCE: 2004 Buick Lesabre speedometer not working

Yes it's on the right side othe transmission just above the passenger side cv axle. You most likley need to send the cluster off and have it checked. Model Electronics in NY.

SOURCE: 2006 buick lacrosse how to replace headlight low

The bright light fitting is the same as the dim so take it apart fist to see how the cover screws off/on and the light comes out. Both the cover and the bulb are removed by a standard twist to the counterclockwise and replaced by a twist to the clockwise. Now to the dim light. You have to release the entire light assembly before you can remove the screw-on cover to reach the light. On the rear edge of the light unit closest to the engine is a white locking tab. Pull that tab up just to the point where it releases…pull too far and it locks again. Next, locate the other locking bracket which is a metal bracket in the center-rear of the light assembly. This bracket is held down by a screw. Remove the screw with a 10mm wrench. Lift the bracket just like you did the white bracket. You should now be able to pull (or pry) the entire light unit forward a little. Depending on the size of your hands this might be enough. If not, then you need to release the plastic bumper assembly to give you a little more space. This is done by removing two expansion locking pins, one that holds the little plastic strip down between the bright and dim lights and one that is located inside a rubber bumper on the engine side of the light unit. To remove these locking pins, pull or pry up the little tab in the center of the pin just like you were pulling a nail by the head. That should give you a little more space.

SOURCE: programing instructions for buick 2006 lacrossekeyless remote fob

Transmitter ProgrammingImportant: All transmitters which are to be recognized by the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Use the scan tool in order to access programming: Vehicle Control System/Computer Integrating System/Module Setup/BCM/Program Key Fobs.
  3. Press the START soft key on the scan tool. Important: The scan tool must stay connected until all of the transmitters are programmed.
  4. Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of 5-10 seconds, the scan tool will indicate that the transmitter is programmed.
  5. Repeat the previous step in order to program up to 4 transmitters.
  6. Remove the scan tool.
  7. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.
Good luck

SOURCE: The speedometer on my 2004

It could be a bad connection in the wires between the speed sensor and the Engine Control Module (ECM). Is the ECM setting a speed sensor code? It could also be a bad Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) module. Are there any codes in the IPC? It could be a problem with the data line between the ECM and the IPC, in which case you will be getting "U-codes" out of your ECM. (U-codes indicate communication problems between the various modules in your car) A good scan of you vehicle's computer systems would be the best place to start.

Where is the odometer cable

There is no cable. The speedometer is electric. It is operated by a magnetic speed sensor that sends a signal to the computer. The computer, then, sends signal to the stepper motor that drives the speedometer. If your speedometer or odometer has stopped working, it would be an electrical issue or likely a bad speed sensor on the transmission.

Half the speedometer and RPM dial on my 2006 Buick Lacrosse has stopped lighting up, can some one tell me why?

When you remove the trim pieces, and the screws that hold in the instrument cluster, after you pull it out, you will see several light bulbs on the back of the panel. You will see one or two that are likely burned out and need to be replaced.

Speedometer does not work correctly all the time. Cold weather seems to make it go hay wire. Never stays stuck when the engine is off but registers 15 to 50 mph faster than actual speed

check and see if the wire on back off speedomter is loose and check your vehicle speed sensor see if working or broke and you also have wheel speed sensors that could be malfunctioning
