Get in the truck roll up all windows and make it as quite as possible. turn the key to the on possition without cranking engine and lisen for a buzz sound that last 2 to 3 seconds, if you dont hear this then the fuel pump is not working. change the fuel pump relay if this dont work change the fuel pump.

Inertia switch

I don't show any switch between the fuel pump relay and the pump in the tank.
Only Ford products used an inertia switch that I know of.

How do you test fuel pump relay on 88 mercedes 190e

The fuel pump relay is behind the battery. remove it and bridge pin #30 (should be under power) and #87 (that goes to the fuel pump).
If the fuel pump kicks in you know the relay is bad

I turned off the motor and five minutes later I wanted to start it up again. The engine turns but doesn't start. I noticed the fuel pump doesn't kick in before I tried to restart. What can the...

Bad relay. Bad fuel pump. You can go to the fuse/relay panel under the hood and swap relays with another one like the A/C relay and try it.
Then the pump may have gone. One common cause is driving with 1/4 or less tank of fuel. Fuel in the tank is very important now days as it keeps the pump thatis inside the tank cool.
Also if you turn the key and don't hear the pump, wait a few seconds before turning it again. If you turn the key off and on too fast the system does not respond that fast.

How can you tell if the fuel pump is bad

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. The easiest way to tell if it is kicking on is my listening for the sound of the pump. When you first turn the key, you should hear a humming sound for a second or two. This is your fuel pump kicking on. If you don't hear it, it is not kicking on. If so, check your fuel pump fuse, relay, or reset button if you have one. It is possible that the pump works but is just not getting power. You would have to test it from the pump with a voltage meter to know for sure. If you don't hear it kicking on though, it may be bad. If you have cranked it a lot, it might not turn on because the pump is already primed, so let it rest before you try it again.

I have a 83 280zx non-turbo which quit running. Heard pulsating noise at fuel pump relay (kicking in and out) under dash passenger side. Replaced relay, still does same thing. Replaced water temperature...

You need to replace the fuel filter. Also the age of the car warrants replacing the fuel pump too. If its drawing high amps the relay will fail. Straight wiring a fuel pump is a safety concern. A fire or explosion hazard exist due to arcing at fuel pump motor. Yes it is inside the fuel tank and is very old. Replace it.
