Question about 1999 Ford Escort

99 Escort Speedometer

My 99 escort has been acting up and i don't know why. My speedometer will bounce around while driving. When I accelerate the speedometer will go up the true speed but when i let of the gas the needle will jump around for a few then drop to zero. Also my cruise control won't work anymore and i don't know if this runs of my speedometer or something else. I've taken the whole cluster out and cleaned all connection wires and made sure the connection was tight. All of my other gauges work fine. I have just replaced my alternator also so that could not be the problem.

It could be a chaffed wire on the fire wall and also still could be the alternator unless it was brand new i would have it checked personally. then start check the accuator for the needle its self

Why ford escort wagon 98 odometer not workind, speedometer OK?

If the speedometer works but the odometer does not, the problem is inside the speedometer. Probably a stripped gear.

Both turn signals on my 1998 Ford Escort zx2 don't flash.

The 98 Escort is actually a Mazda 323 with Ford trim. It uses a solid state flasher relay for both turn signals and hazard lights.
The relay is behind the speedometer. My guess is the relay has died.
You can look it up online or check with your local auto parts store to get a visual.

the odometer works on a drive from the spedo. if the odometer does not work but the spedo does then you will have to replace the spedo assy.

Replacing transmission fluid in standard

The manual transmission in the Ford Escort uses transmission fluid, it is checked and filled in the same hole. That hole is where the speedometer cable is hooked up to the transmission. Remove the speedometer cable, set aside, then remove the locking bolt that holds the speedometer drive unit in place. Pull up on the drive unit and it will come out, look on the side of the drive unit and you will see the level indicator line for full and add. Fill as needed and reinstall the drive unit and cable. Hope this helps, let me know.

Speedometer and odometer stoped working

Dear Sir/Madam, The problem is electrical. The speedometer/odometer box needs to be removed from behind the steering wheel (or after removing the steering wheel)...The bulbfuses behind the panel need to be changed and new electrical connections made for the speedometer/odometer to work.
Thanks, Netpreneur
