I have an 89 honda accord that backfires and stumbles when the automatic transmission shifts. A hose that connects the air control valve B and the anti afterburn valve to the carb blows off if you accelerate quickly. It doesn't blow off if you accelerate gently but it still stumbles. Can anyone help.
Car has already been tuned up, timing belt was changed, carb was changed. The mileage is 184,000 but has good compression and their is no leakeage around the head valves. Their was a broken vac hose on the egr but I fixed that and the problem still exists. When it backfires it is running fine and as the trans completes its shift then there is only one backfire and stumble untill the next shift. If the car is in park the car revs fine and does not stumble or backfire. Only problem is just after shift point.Car has already been tuned up, timing belt was changed, carb was changed. Probably not the ecm.. look for bad plug wires, vacuum leaks, timing settings, Crank Position sensor, Spark plug wires incorrectly installed, Try this.. Open the hood at night and look for the plug wires leaking.. you are looking for sparks.. I would look for disconnected Vac. hoses, broken or cracked vac hoses, ..
muffler explosion
#1 reason , EFI running rich as a pig (CEL glowing and warning)
and exhaust cracks, (adds air )
air + fuel = muffler explosion and can blow the whole thing to H3LL
pipes blast off. car.
Definitely not good. The transmission is slipping internally due to worn gears and clutch packs. It will have to come out for rebuilding, IMO. Have a transmission shop check it out.
Good luck.
look on the back of transmisson there is a modulator vavle it a small round looking cylinder it should have a small rubber hose hose connected in the centre of it if it has come off put it back on and road test truck .If the hose is still on start the truck with park brake on an go under truck and pull the hose of the valve and put your finger over the hose and feel for suction u should have sucion if there is suction replacs valve . if there is no sucion follow hose to the engine some thing is blocked or the hose at the engine has come off .if the car has backfired in the past it blows them off
