Why pull bed??it is much easier to drop the tank with afloor jack and apiece of plywood. all you have todo is remove tank sheld/skid plate if equipet the inlet gas fill hose& vapor hoses remome the 2 tank starps w/15mm socket and center jack w/plywood on jack to help center. if you wnt to take the bed off there are 6 or 8 nuts depending on bed length.disconnect rear taillight harness at connector around back of license plate area diconnect fuel fill hose from inlet get 4to5 friends to pick upbed and slide back and balance or lean on rear bumper

Fuel pump 2001 silverado

You can either drop the tank, if its near empty that is; but it hardly ever works out that way. When I did mine I took the bed off. Unbolt I believe 8 bolts , wiring for taillights, and (I used my cherry picker) lift the bed up. The pump assy goes into the tank, some twist out, some might have a couple screws holding it. I don't remember. Assembly is the opposite of removal.

Where is the fuel pump REALLY located on a 2001 Silverado???

It is inside the fuel tank, it is actually easier to remove the bed than to drop the tank to change it.

How do drop the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump on a 2001 chev silverado 1500?

some times it is easier to remove the bed.

jack up truck

unhook the fuel inlet hose and vent

reach threw fender and unhook fuel lines from top of tank and wiring plug

remove bolts from fuel tank straps ( the ones closest to drive shaft )

lower tank

sounds easy but is is harder then it sounds expecly if the tank is full of gas.

get a few friends over and pull the bed.

2001 silverado v6 died while pulling into parking lot. Cranks but won't start. Can't hear the fuel pump engage when I turn on the key. Replaced fuel pump relay. Does this mean I have a bad fuel pump?

Try spraying an alternative fuel such as induction cleaner into the throttle body and see if it runs.If it does most likely cause is the fuel pump.

Gas gauge will jump around show empty when not 2001 silverado 2500 ck 4x4 ext cab

The gas gauge is part of the fuel pump assembly. I just replaced mine on 2X4 same truck. New assembly from GM is $500, $275 from Auto Zone. If inclined to do yourself, you can tilt bed up in drivers side. See other posts about changing fuel pump.

Process to change fuel pump on 2001 chevy silverado 1500

take the six bed bolt loose and then take three buddies slide the bed back put in the new pump slide it back n place and put the bed bolts back in. if u drop the tank u can easily break the hard plastis lines that go to the fuel tank. u only have to take the fill lines and taillight wires loose this way its alot quicker, and easier.

Changing fuel pump 99 slverado

there are 2 ways to do this. you can drop the tank or take the bed off. i prefer to take the bed off it was easy er that way for me. but once you get to the top of the tank there will be a ring that holds the pump in just take a pair of pliers and take it off but you will need a special tool to take the fuel lines off because they are quick connect lines but once you get it unhooked it should just slide out the top.

Fuel sensor gauge

you will need to replace the fuel level sensor.(sending unit) it is in the tank and is hooked to the fuel pump. you can buy seperatly from pump. you may finf it easier to remove the bed if you have some help. it is six or eight bolts and harness unplugs then you can get right to it.
