Question about 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier

2 Answers

Friend cracked the heads on his 2.2l chevy cavalier.

Put everything back togethor, car will run but gas shoots out the no.4 spark plug. pipe doped that spark plug and now gas is shooting out the valve cover. is this most likely the fuel regulator or is the new head bad? he purchased it from a junk yard. and could the spark plug wires being installed in the wrong order cause this?

firing order 153624 make sure valves on no1 cylinder are closed with cams pointing upwards then the rotor arm points to this plug lead and away you go ,This cylinder is no1 and then swop the others to follow the firing order ,once running either check with a timing light or swing distributor till engine runs faster then back it up a bit till it just starts to slow and should be right if it pinks the back it back a bit more till it stops pinking

Truck runs a little rough on rainy mornings. the other morning on my to work running about 60 mph it cut off and would not start back up.had it towed home and started trying to trouble shoot . replaced...

Your checking incorrectly for spark. Hokk a timing light to the cyliunder in question. If the timing light won't flash, your providing enough voltage to the plug for it to fire. You"ll get the gas from that. It sounds like a cracked coil.

2000 plymonth won,t start at all what could it be?

An engine only needs 3 things to start and run. gas/ fuel air charge. spark and compression. you can check all three with little to no tools. #1 put the key in ignition and turn it on DO NOT CRANK IT. just turn it to the on position. Then go under the hood and look for a fuel bleed off valve which has a cap most times on it that is IDENTICLE to a air fed valve for your car tire, that is exactly what it is oif the cap is on or off it lloks exactly like the car tire valve. Find that, stand as far back as you can from it. Make sure before you push the valve down (like you are letting air out of the tire) that all electric things are off and nothing to cause a fire is within 5 ft in any direction from that little valve bleeder. Press it down just a quick second. Gas should shoot out or up or in any direction of that valve about 4 ft. remember this so you take correct percuations to avoid fire and or getting gas in yer mouth or eyes. If gas shoots out under pressure we will move on the the next one spark. get some type of metal bar or anything like that (screwdriver) that will slip in between spark plug and the end of the wire. set it up so, if it is sparking. You will be able to see the spark jump from the end of the wire Or what you stuck in there to make the connector stick out closer to being able to see and ground it. it should be a very small amount from some type of metal. then while cranking the car you can see the spark jump and know you have spark. and last is compression, pull any spark plug out, put you thumb over the spark plug hole. have a friend turn the engine over. do not push your thunmb on to that hole just set it there.,this because if all is good the intake stroke can **** yer finger into the hole and do something real nice like peel yer finger nail right off. as the motor is turned over about every 4 times around it should **** quite hard on yer finger and opposite that, it should make a load air pushing nosie. Those are the 3 basic ways to check for the minimums a fuel injected car engine needs to run. If you have all of those then it gets more complicated. most often if they are all good, it will start and run, most on board diaognostics have a fail safe built in and will run with the very minimums. if it wont, you are more than likey missing 1 of the 3

Check the fuel pressure regulator, and the fuel return line all the way back to the fuel tank, one ,or the other is stopped up,or the fuel regulator is closed up.I would check the fuel return line first, this is the most likely problem.

Won't start

Grab a spark plug, any spark plug even a spare for your lawn mower, and plug it into any spark plug wire, and lay it on the valve cover. Crank it over and have somebody verify rather or not there is spark, obviously you don't want to hang on to the plug or wire. After spark is or isn't there get back to me and we'll continue to trouble shoot.
