Re: reset check engine light
I you have fixed the problem that set the check engine light in the first place, you can disconnect the battery for 1-2 minutes and the light will go out. If you do this but haven't fixed the problem the light will remain on or will come back on shortly after you start the engine and drive. If you haven't fixed the problem, I highly recommend getting the vehicle scanned for codes and post the codes here. we can help you from there.

the computer is sensing something is wrong. If running normal, dont worry about it. Check your gas cap, cross threading it is a common "check engine".These lights are also called dummy lights. They are very sensetive.
this light is warning you of a serious issue concerning a failed sensor in the engine. you will need to run this vehicle in the nearest dealership for a diagnostic scan on the ecm/pcm device. this scan will give detailed info on the location of the problem and how to fix it. this scan cpu will also reset the light and it will shut off once the issue is fixed.
If you just want to shut the light off, you can just pull the battery post for a minute. this will reset the ecm but, if the issue is not fixed, the light will come back on in the coming days.
The engine is probably making a knocking sound because the oil needs to be changed or replaced. The check engine light is indicating that you will need regular dealership servicing soon, however you can still drive the vehicle but depending on mileage it will determine what services are required.
An OBDII scanning tool will reveal the cause of the issue, and give you the ability to reset it. You might also disconnect the negative battery terminal, wait about a minute, then reconnect. The light might come back on after awhile if the issue had not been resolved. Also, you will need the radio code to unlock your radio if you do option #2.
