It odes not matter if the car is in gear or neutral. The r/h side axle is kind of a pain to remove. You will need a long extention and 12mm swiwle end socket and a ratchet. You need to remove the 3 bolts on the side of the support bearing to get the axle out of the support bearing bracket. Those bolts are a pain in the *** to get to. You have to be looking at then from underneith the transmission. Remove those bolts. Then you will need a big punch an a hammer to spin the bearing in the support to free it up enough to get it out. This is not really a job, that you want to be laying on your back doing it and its not exactly a job for a person, that doesn't work on cars or is machanically inclined. Anyhow, good luck and let me know how you made out.

1998 nissan maxima do not start unless i bush on gas when cold. i ask this before and got a answer, air regulator, but nobody know what that is.

Clean the throttle body inside and the idle air control motor(air regulator). Your best bet is to remove the throttle body and then remove the idle air control motor off of it. If you have the barrel type motor, you need to open it and clean in it as best you can. Use a toothpick or paper clip and brake clean. Use a tooth brush on the throttle body. Check your air filter while your at it.

Removing a axle shaft from a 1987 nissan maxima

if you already have the axle out of the hub/strut assembly, try taking a chisel or prybar and putting it where the axle enters the trans. These have steel snap-rings that can really hold them in there, so you will have to use a little force. If you can fit a screwdriver in the gap, try using one screwdriver on either side and rock it back and forth. Hope this helps :)

2000 Nissan Maxima rear axle bearings are humming, I want to change them. Do I need special tools such as a bearing puller?

rapeck: The Maxima rear axle bearings are manufactured as a hub assembly. There is a ring for the ABS which is fitted to the hub which must be removed and installed on the replacement hub.
A puller or other method is used to remove it and install it.
Aside from that, taking the caliper off and hanging it, removing the brake rotor and removing the axle nut. Torquing the axle nut is necessary. so there you have it...
