Start-up problem with '98 Explorer

My car wouldn't start, so I tried jumping it, which didn't work. There was definitely electricity getting to the battery as I could see sparks when the clips were touched to the battery. It doesn't seem to be a problem with battery power since the headlights, dashlight and even the radio works fine.
When I turn the key, there is just no response, no sound whatsoever. It doesn't turn over or catch anything, just dead silence.
I'm thinking that there's just an issue with the electricity geting to the start up, any suggestions?

98 hyundai accent electrical battery drain?

Never, never, never (!) pull a battery cable off while the ignition is on or engine running. I know that used to be the old way to check alternators, but that was before modern electronics and computers on cars. Nowadays, you can fry the electronics, the computer, and the alternator by doing that. It causes voltage spikes in the electrical system, and very harmful to electronics. Sounds like you are still okay, just giving you a heads-up.
Sounds to me like you may have a weak battery or a short in the cd player. If your battery is 3 or 4 years old, I would try a new battery, or take yours to have tested. If it is good, you might want the charging system checked. With a voltmeter on the battery, engine running, voltage should be about 13.5 volts. That is what the alternator needs to be putting out to recharge the battery for the next start-up.
Good luck.

There's a bolt and a plate near the bottom of the battery holding the battery in the tray. Did you take that bolt out and lift the plate ?

My best guess without being able to see the car is that the battery hard wiring is faulty.

You need to check both the condition, routing and security of the battery negative and positive leads.
You also need to check the security and condition of any additional earth leads which connect the engine to the chassis/body.

My 2007 dodge charger didn't crank so I jumped it

A battery from 07 is still decently new to be that bad, but I would check the alternator first, just get the car running and unhook the positive cable from the battery, if the car dies the alternator is bad.

Starter issues with 98 Ford Windstar (3.8)

one problem that the 98 winstars ( 3,8L ) are prone to is the transmission range sensor. they are badly located and not well sealed. As a result corosion...
The starter solenoid wire ( red/ light blue ) runs throught the range sensor before reaching the ignition switch.
Try shifting back and forth between Park and L1 rapedly at least 5, 6 times and then try starting in Neutral.
If it starts the TRS is easy to replace and accesible.
( The TRS is also responsible for the transmission going into irradical kick down mode )
