It may be as simple as low coolant level. When u are driving, the water pump is circulating the hot coolant to the heater core, if the level is low, at idle, the coolant is circulating much slower, and if level is low, the coolant doesn't circulate thru the heater core. I suspect when u check, u will find the level too low. If so, add to proper level and let me know what happens. If that's not it, I'll help further.

1996 avalon p0401 exhaust gas recirulation flow fail. How to repair? Is this a sensor problem or a real problem? Can I do this myself?

Testing all the related components is the only way to know whats bad/ good. The valve may be bad? stuck? passages clogged? You can do it yourself if you have a manual and a voltmeter to check the solenoid, sensor ? You may be better off having a shop check it, that spend money guessing.

Heater Blower Motor

Remove the glovebox door, and the under dash cover/trim panel.

Look behind where the glove box was, you will see the heater box

At the bottom of this box, there is a round plate with a wiring connector and 3 screws holding this plate to the heater box.

This plate is the bottom of the heater fan assembly; remove the connector, and the 3 screws. The fan motor will drop staright down. Real easy to do.
