Question about 1990 Ford Probe

Wiring on plug for fule sending unit

While changing the fuel tank on my 1990 Probe the wires pulled out of the plug that goes to the fuel sending unit. I cannot find a new plug pigtail anywhere in a junk yard like mine. I would think there would be wiring diagrams somewhere to show me how to wirre back to the plug for the unit.

One wire usually to sending unit (which is a rheostat ) from inside it is soldered then up and out to anyplace you can get a length of wire to work with or solder a new one in place where old exists now and out to your torn wire..good luck

2003 ctdi goes into limp mode

code p0238 refers to manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor A TC system --high input===causes --wiring short to positive --MAP sensor---ECM
Replace the sensor (internal fault)
code p0102 refers to mass air flow (MAF) sensor /volume air flow (MAV) sensor --low input ===causes wiring short to ground ---MAF/VAF sensor
again the MAF is implicated as faulty

code po113 refers to intake air temperature (IAT) sensor--circuit malfunction===causes --wiring open circuit/short to positive --wiring short to ground --ground wire defective---IAT sensor---ECM

Now looking at all the codes the most common fault is wiring damaged so pay particular to the condition of the wiring loom --the condition of the connections --clean pins - pins not bent --water in the connections . IT is common that when disconnecting the units that the connection is pulled apart by pulling on the wires .. This check is the cheapest before any money is spent on the rest . Do not clean but replace because if cleaning does not produce a result you still do not know if you cleaned it properly or if it is faulty

Where is the fuel pump located on a 1990 ford econoline van

Inside the gas tank. you have to unbolt the two straps holding your tank in place, remove all hoses and wires. pull the tank out from under the van, unbolt the sending unit (normally by blots, or lockring) and pull entire sending unit out. the pump is attached to the sending unit.

My fuel gage is reading full at all times and the radio will not come on is this a fuse issue or two different issues?

You definitely have two different issues as the fuel gauge and radio are on different circuits. The radio could be a blown fuse, which would require finding a short circuit. The fuel gauge could be as simple as a bad connection at the sending unit or a lost ground on the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel gauge at the tank and with a twelve volt test light well grounded probe the harness terminals with the key on (engine off). The fuel gauge should move when the sending unit wire is probed, and the test light should light dimly. Other terminals are a ground for the sending unit, a ground for the fuel pump, and power for the fuel pump. If the gauge moves when the sending unit wire is probed the problem is either the sending unit or a bad harness connection. If the gauge doesn't move during the probe there is a wiring problem (open circuit) or a bad dash gauge. Hope this helps.

It stays on quarter of a tank i replaced the sending unit and the gauge and if i unplug the wire from the fuse block it goes to half a tank and when i plug it back in it goes to a quarter

I would assume that this occurs whatever level the fuel is on, may it be full. Looks like it is a wiring issue. This may be tedious but try to trace the wiring. Look for loose connections or bad wiring. Wiring insulation may have gone bad. To test this further you may want to consider directly connecting the gauge to the wiring of the tank for the sending unit and the fuel gauge. If the problem persist when you directly connected it it could be an issue with the gauge or the part inside the tank. If no issues are present it may be the wiring.

I have a 1990 swift sedan and my fuel gauge stopped working, needle stays on the E even when it has fuel?

the the sending unit in the tank with an ohm meter
it should read 8 ohms when full and zero when empty

the hook ups to do this will be the green wire to one probe and just ground the other probe to the chassis

The gas cage is not working//

Inside the gas tank is the fuel sending unit. It is a floating device that is held on rails and it slides up and down depending on gas level and then sends a signal to the gas gauge. Either the float is leaky or it is stuck. The down side is you have to pull out the tank, then use brass punch and knock the ring counter-clockwise until it becomes loose. Then pull out and change the sending unit. Do make sure negative battery cable is disconnected and wiring harness and fuel lines are disconnected before pulling the tank.

Replaced fuel pump now gas gauge is screwy

The sending unit sends a signal to the engine control module. The engine control module sends a serial message to the fuel gauge.
Check the connection at the fuel tank. If you have a digital multi-meter, check the resistance on the "purple" wire at the fuel tank connector, fuel tank side. The amount of resistance will be determined by the amount of fuel in the fuel tank. Generally it should be between 10 and 255 ohms.
Below is the wiring diagram for your car. Hope it helps, let me know.
