Question about 1991 Lexus ES 250

1 Answer

I have a 2001 dodge caravan with 139000 miles. Would not heat.

Told I needed a new radiator. Then they called and said head gasket was bad. Total repair cost is $1200 for radiator and repair. Is it worth it. Body is in decent shape.

Formula for determining a vehicles worth is..what would it cost to replace it with something that does the same thing ..comfort mileage reliablility etc. what would that vehicle cost..vs the repair cost vs the remaining life of the current vehicle if repaired (assuming it is not over its *dependable threshold* where you begin putting good money after bad) ...good luck

01 dodge grand caravan 3.8l no coolant circulation all hoses warm to the touch no heat replace water pump and tstat...flushed out no restriction...constant bubbles coming up to over...

If it is the head gasket you should see coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant. New thermostats can be bad right out of the new box. You can test them by boiling water on the stove and putting it in an watch to see if it opens at the right temperature. Between 185.F - 205.F (average is 195.F)

I have a 2001 dodge grand caravan and it appears to be loosing anyifreeze and has no heat

You need to fill it back up and find the leak. If you can't find it, rent/borrow a radiator pressure tester. You pump it up slightly above the cap rating, and see the leak better. If still no visible leak, then watch the gauge on the pump. If it drops you probably have a head gasket leak. Look for coolant in the oil or spark plugs. If after you deal with leak, it still has no heat, then there are additional things we can discuss. But leak first.
