Question about 2006 Saturn Vue

1 Answer

1995 Nissan Quest, Oil pan damage, Car stuck idling....

I bottomed out on a curb I didn't see, oil was leaking, I was able to drive home, but now I want to drive the car to the shop and I can't! I filled it up with oil, still no luck... the engine turns over and starts just fine, but when I put it into gear to back out, it doesn't work, neither does drive....

I just don't know what to do, I don't need a permenant solution, I would just like to be able to drive my van to the shop!

Check for further damage to linkage to transmission and its cooler lines...if in doubt...hire a tow truck..the damage you may cause by driving may considerably increase your repair bill....good luck

SOURCE: changing water pump on 1994 nissan quest

There is no easy way, water pumps are hard to change on this vehicle. Before starting the job I would buy a repair manual with step by step instructions. To give you some idea on how long it may take, the labor time is 4.5 hours for an experienced tech.

Car jerks when you shift gears

If that oil is transmission fluid, you may be low on fluid. That would cause harsh shifts. Make sure your transmission is full.
Is it just reverse and drive that ****? Do second and third shift smooth? If so, you may have a too-high idle.
If idle is good, and your transmission didn't get low on fluid, then I would suggest you drain and refill the transmission, and install a new transmission filter while you have the bottom pan off. Usually, you can buy a filter and pan gasket as a kit.

Oldsmobile aurora where is the oil sending unit.My daughter hit a curb with her car and now the the oil light is on and the on board computer say that she has low oil pressure .It is a 1999 V8 4.0 L ....

It should be on the left side of the engine(front of car) wiring runs under and around oil pan maybe wires are torn or pulled out of connector.oil sending unit is usually right in the same area of oil filter.

Copied from "EHow" by By Zibahrose Step 1 Purchase the gasket kit and quarts of oil from the local auto parts store. The customer service rep at the store can help you purchase the correct amount of oil and the right gasket kit for your vehicle.
  • Step 2jack_thumb.jpg Safely jack up the vehicle and place jack stands to support the vehicle. Lower the jack to rest the car on the jack stands before working on the vehicle. .......OR drive the car onto a curb on one side only to give you some working room under the car.
  • Step 3 Make sure the leak is coming from the oil pan gasket. There are at other sources of oil ... The oil filter, the oil pan screws and the oil plug. You may want to snug each of these just a bit - then wipe the wet oil area - then run the engine a bit just to be sure!!
  • Step 4 Once you are certain that the oil pan gasket is the problem, drain the oil from the oil pan and store it in the container until it can be properly disposed of.
  • Step 5
  • Remove the oil pan from the bottom of the engine. Remove the old gasket. (Make sure it is disposed of properly.)
  • Step 6 Make sure the edge of the oil pan is clean. Check for any debris left by previous gaskets or gasket sealant. If there is any, use the wire brush to clean it off. You may use WD40 to clean the oil pan and the place where the gasket will go on the oil pan. Wipe it dry paper towels.
  • Step 7 Make sure replacement gasket is the same shape as the top of the oil pan. Some people use a sealant type of gasket when they cannot purchase a rubber or cork gasket. I recommend either cork or rubber because a sealant tends to be messy and does not always adhere or cure properly. Put some clear silicone on the engine. Place the gasket against the silicome and then carefully place the oil pan against the gasket. Loosely insert a few of the oil pan bolts and check to ensure that the gasket has not moved.
  • Step 8 Tighten the screws to the torque indicated in the Haynes manual.
  • Step 9 Lower the car by reversing the proceedure used to elevate it.
  • Step 10motoroilbtl_thumb.jpg Fill engine with oil according to the vehicle specifications. Do not over fill.
  • Step 11 Crank the vehicle and allow to idle. Check for leaks.
