Starts fine and runs on idle fine. Once I start driving, engine dies. After 20 mins it starts again and does this over again. Gas smell from exhaust when trying to start.

more likely it's the ECT sensor.

Have the Mass Airflow Sensor checked (it's the black, plastic box the size of a business card on the driver's side of the throttle body). It is VERY common for them to give false readings to the ECU.

Engine hesitates,no pressure release when gas cap removed on a 98 buick lesabre

Not sure how long ago you had the top half of the engine rebuilt and not sure if this is a new problem and the vehicle ran fine after the top end was done (thinking it was fine then). I have found a number of times that the throttle plate gets carbon deposits on it to where it doesn't close in the proper spot. This throttle body happens to have a screen in it so many people don't physically clean the deposits off and just spray cleaner in there to clean it. Below is a picture of that screen in the throttle body and I marked with a red arrow a snap ring that needs to be removed and that screen comes right out. Spray that throttle plate real well with throttle body cleaner and even manually open it so you get both sides. I even use a soft tooth brush and a rag with throttle body cleaner. Get the trottle plate and the inside of the throttle body including the little ledges that kind of stop the trottle body (you will feel a "lip" in there). After you get it all back together, disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 10 minutes and then start the car. It's gonna be a hard start at first and rev it a few times to blow the cleaner out and then just let it idle for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then maybe drive it for a few miles. Disconnecting the battery cleared how your vehicles computer (PCM) where it thought its idle was set and now is going to teach itself the best idle position. It still going to take about 25 miles and some driving time to totally learn but I think this should help clear it up. Another thing but you will need the proper scanner or somebody who can do it for you and it is called a crankshaft position system variation learn procedure. Hope this helps...

Why does a fuel injected nissan v-6 3000 engine act like it's flooding? If i cover the air intake valve with my hand it will rev up but if i don't it will not.

Hello! I suspect a defective Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)...It can be tested...It is bolted to the throttle body...Has a three wire connector...Wire colors are...Pink/Black...White...And Black...Push the pointed end of a safety pin into the rear of the connector on two pins...Pink/Black...And White...Connect the + lead of a voltmeter to the White wire...And the- to the Pink/Black..With key on...Reading must be less than 1 volt (.85)...If not the TPS needs to be replaced...Cost is around $50...

87 chevy 350 fuel injected pickup wont run smoothly. Will start fine when cold and run for a few minutes then will be rough idle before finally quitting. I have replaced the distrubuter, coil, plugs, plug...

sounds like your egr valve is gummed up or bad. this is located behind the throttle body and has a single vaccum tube connected to it. if the diafram is still good you can remove it and clean it with WD 40 until the plunger works smooth

I HAVE A NISSAN d21 2.4L 1987 hardbody pick up as im driving when i let up on the gas pedal it seems to stumble just a little bit then it seems fine after that ???

Sounds like it could be faulty fuel injectors. (unless of course, it's carburated, then it'd be a poorly adjusted float)

sometimes the gasket under the trottle body goes bad. spray carb cleaner at the base of the trottle (not down into it) body while the engine is running. if the idle changes your on the right track. its an easy gasket to change.

Check your intake and exhaust modules. I have a 1987 D21 and had the same problem (if I understand your post). I replaced the modules located behind the driver side headlights and it fixed the problem. Good luck! I hope this helps.
