Low oil pressure on 96 toyota 2200cc engine

The oil pressure is low on my 96 toyota 2200 cc engine. a mechanic told me i needed an oil pump. i pulled the oil pan to check the rod bearings and found an impressive looking thing bolted to the bottom of the engine just below the rod bearings. what is it and can i safely remove it to check the bearings? also can the oil pump be replaced without pulling the engine?

The oil pump can be changed without pulling the engine.

The impressive looking thing is the balance shaft assembly. These counter-rotating shafts balance out the inherent vibration of the engine. You can remove it, as long as you do not disrupt the gear placements relationship to each other. The balance assembly is set to a specific point.

The high pressure fuel pump is leaking fuel past its seals into the engine oil.

The hp fuel pump is located on the valve cover.

The oil level will not rise because when the oil is contaminated with fuel, it's viscosity is affected, and it will make the engine burn more oil.

You will need to replace the High Pressure Fuel Pump, drain and fush oil and replace oil filter.

I have a 2004 Toyota highlander leaking oil, oil light comes on. Could it be the rubber rings?

a 2004 toyota highlander V6

this should be your engine type
The 2GR-FE is a 3.5 L (3456 cc)

if leaks are that bad
always check the engine oil level before you drive off

fixing oil leaks on motors
degrease whole motor top and bottom

start with replacing the oil sender it may be the cause of the oil light coming on
after degrease
lay cardboard or paper under the car
take out for a drive and park over the paper over night

this pin points most of the oil leak locations
leaks from a V6 motor
rocker covers/ spark plug tube 0 rings.engine seals
cam seals
front and rear engine seals leak often
sump gasket can leak

if oil consumption or light on continues
can be a failing engine oil pump
or worn main bearings giving low oil pressure to the whole engine
you could be burning oil from worn piston rings
or hardened valve stems

a mechanic can fit an oil pressure gauge to the motor when hot
to check running oil pressure to confirm low oil pressure

if engine is worn out

it is possible to fit a lower mileage used motor to your highlander
its often cheaper than and engine rebuild

Computer show the engine oil pressure not enough need to stop engine how to improve

Generally low oil pressure is due to a failing oil pump. If you have a mechanical gauge you can pull the electric oil pressure sensor and use that gauge there to verify if the pump is bad. If pressure is low on the mechanical pump then the pump is bad. If the mechanical pump reads good pressure then its the pressure sensor that is bad.

First of all you have to determine if you really have low oil pressure with a real gauge. If the oil pressure is zero you may have a bad oil pump, but if the pressure is low your engine may be just worn out and the oil cannot build up pressure because the clearances are too loose.

Toyota engine oil light is on

Oil level too low, oil pressure sender failed, oil pump relief valve failed, oil pump faulty.

First thing is to check the oil level, and if OK, then have a mechanic check your oil pressure with a gauge at various revs, to see if the pressure sensor is OK.

If low, you will then need the oil pump looked at.

usually the oil pressure light means your oil pressure is low. zthat casn be mechanical breakdoown of the oiling system, low oil level, or a worn engine. Low oil pressure caused failures are usually either fatal to the engine or drastically reduce its life span. Whether it is a faulty sensor or an oil delivery problem you should noot drive with the oil light on or the gauge reading no pressure An engine without oil will overheat metal parts beecaause the oil pressure prevents wear on parts by essentially floating them on an oil film at pressure. This is more important than any other fluid and losing oil is your engine bleeding to death. so why did you keep going Most likely you had both an oiling problem and a sensor that was intermittent. zthey are normally on and engine oil pressure deactivates them.

1988 toyota 4x4 pickup check oil light is staying on. checked oil level and was full.why does the light stay on

It means your oil pressure is too low to safely run engine. Causes might be a worn oil pump, a failed oil pump gasket, clogged oil passages from sludge, or badly worn crankshaft bearings.
If your toyota is not burning oil, or very little, I would take a look at the oil pump on your engine. After removal, they can be checked (and repaired) with a feeler gauge for proper working condition, but most people just replace with new.
If you want to be certain about the pressure reading, you can check pressure with a mechanic's oil pressure gauge. You have to run the engine just long enough to get a good reading on the pressure gauge, a moment or two.

Hi. I have a 1996 4.6 Range Rover. Oil pressure light comes on at idle plus bearing rattle. Some one told me that the block could be cracked under the valley cover letting oil escape. I was told this is a...

Hey Peter,
You are correct, the cracking of the oil gallery in the block is an ongoing issue and to be honest, there is no easy fix..
However, this could also be due to faulty or incorrectly adjusted oil pressure regulator (which is inside the sump) or a worn oil pump, or worn engine to have a mechanic check the actual oil pressure for you. He will remove the pressure switch and fit a pressure gauge so that the actual pressure can be checked.
If this shows low oil pressure then all you can do is pull the engine down and have the block pressure checked to locate the point of the leak. You can also check the oil pump and the vanes inside for wear..
Having the block welded will only result in the crack appearing next to the weld.
Sorry but it is a design fault with these engines..
