apparently on this vehicle it is a very common problem. you are lucky to be able to start car even after 20 minutes. I believe that you have to hook up your vehicle to a tech 2 scan tool and turn off your anti theft system using this device through your OBDII. hope this helps
If the "Check Engine" light is on, have someone get the OBDII codes with an OBDII scan tool. If not, check the plugs, distributor, plug wires, timing chain, and compression.
you need the right software and a multi use ob2 reader. pro scan 5.9 will read the system but you need the right ob2 tool for it to read. there is this site that may help you. http://www.micro-tronik.com/mercedes_benz_diagnostic_software_13.html
OBDII is strictly for engine management. The ABS uses it's own computer. You will need a higher end multi-function scan tool or an ABS specific scan tool to pull ABS codes and /or data.
If you are a DIY'er you can get a OBDII scan tool that connects to your laptop that can tell you the error code and allow you to reset your check engine light. This will save you $80 each time over going to a mechanic for a diagnostic. They are easy to use and will help you know what the issues are if you do have to go to a mechanic. Check out http://www.fitityourself.netau.net/OBDII.html Sometime the check engine light comes on if you did not fit your gas cap tight enough. You need a code reader to find out the error code to help solve your problem. If it is something simple (like a gas cap) and you do not want to get a code reader to find out what codes (problems) your vehicle computer is saying there is. You can try disconnecting the negative battery lead for 5 minutes. This should reset your check engine light. Drive and if it comes back on after some days, your problem is still there, therefore buy a code reader to get to the bottom of the issue.
even though it won't start it should still be possible to retrieve fault codes. On an OBDII car your going to have to have a code reader tool, so either have your shop scan it or buy a scan tool. Post up your codes and someone should be able to helkp you from there
