Question about 1998 Subaru Forester
111K mileage. CEL light came on while I was driving it; car lost power and stalled out. Brought it my mechanic. He replaced "a brittle wire that is attached to a mottor that runs off the engine". Said the car was fine. Three miles after I picked it up--the car did the very same thing I brought it in for--CEL light came on and then it stalled out.
I know nothing about cars and am a widow who needs her car at the moment. I don't want to get taken to the cleaners on this...any thoughts???
The wire that he replaced was most likely the alternator wire.
The alternator may need to be replaced.
Have it checked and replaced if necessary.
This is the device that powers the entire vehicle while its running, so it is pretty important!
Ask what the codes from the CEL come up, maybe we can help diagnose a little further.
