1999 nissan altima can service engine light soon cause 4 cylinder to loose pressure?

I get service engine light soon and the 4 cylinder at idle shows compression at 50, checked 3 cylinder and compression shows at 100, can something like that cause cylinders to loose compression?

You have a bad intake or exhaust valve

Major Repair

Check Lights are just an indication of a system
fault code set in vehicles computer

You use the codes to help diagnose the issues
if they are of any help

Codes & Sensors that produce check lights- just indicate
that something is not to programmed Emission Specs
& only component testing will find the problems

Do a compression test like you did , then put 10 mls of oil in the cylinder and retest , if compression goes up to other cylinders the rings are shot, if it stays the same it is a valve problem , check the valve clearance in case a lifter has pumped up, if ok the valves are burnt out .

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 S 4 cylinder - went to get gas (just a bit, did not fill up) on Christmas and soon afterward the 'service engine soon' light came on. Called the Nissan dealer

When last did you service the vehicle ?
did they use the proper fuel ?

Chances are the service time is near where you will need to do a basic service, Plug , plug wires, filters etc. And reset the counter.
the fuel ting is just a coincidence.

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE About a week ago the check engine light came on, it started running rough, especially at idle. Computer diagnostic results showed missfire in cylinder 6. I replaced...

i would definately replace the coil. pretty certain that will solve your problem. do not drive with misfire or that can cause fruther damage such as catalyst failing, which is prety expensive.

2003 4 cyl altima. Smell of fuel park inside the garage or idling. Sometimes the service engine light comes on and rough idling.

Cylinder missfire defintly may need a coil. Get to a place and have soemone pull the code from the ecm and it should be easy to fix

I have a nissan altima gle 2001 and it was working normally. Sudenly service engine soon check turned on and everytime I full stop in a red light, it doesnt matter if it is in Drive gear or if it is...

these are notorious for this problem-a leaking intake gasket at #4-it can be verified by using a can of carb cleaner. Spray around #4 intake port, if the idle changes you have the same issue. Do NOT clean the throttle body on these cars, it is so sensitive that a 25 RPM change will set another code that you'll never get rid of unless you replace the entire throttle body. I work on my neighbor's Altima, there are no shortage of quirks with these cars. Here is a link specific to your issue, with owners who want a class action against Nissan:

Service soon light on,cuts off when at idle, hard to start back.

The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light or Service Engine Soon light to come on and the process of finding the cause.

When the Check Engine light or Service Engine Soon light (depends on make) is turned on the computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible faults that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores do this testing for free.

Service Engine Soon

That is pure nonsense. The PO 507 appears to be Idle Air Control System

Look over the car yourself

Make sure the Air Filter cover is on correctly and all duct work to the Throttle Body is in place and tight and you have no other vacuum hoses off.

You never need a Dealer. All you need is good professional scanner and up todate software.

What will prompt the service engine soon light in

its some kind of sensor that causes it to come on it could be a loose or bad gas cap to a bad o2 sensor many,it has to do with emissions of the vehicle, parts stores can check it to see why it is on

2003 Nissan Altima 2.5S, Check Engine Light Problem.

this problem could be caused by the mass air flow censor, i had the same problem with my car. it is really pricey at the dealer so you might want to check elsewhere for this part. I found one at a scrap yard for 85% less that the dealer and i also got life time warranty, the dealer does not offer any warranty on this part.
