Question about 1997 Dodge Neon
Only gear it goes in is first no neutral no 2nd 3rd 4th 5th gear and no reverse its alll play
There are bushings in the linkage for the shifter under the car at the shifter and at the trans. Those wear out or the retaining pin clip may have come off and pin got loose.

Inspect first the fluid. If it is already dirty you may need to have it replaced but most importantly is that it is possible that the solenoid in the transmission which controls the fluid for the gears to engage may be dirty as well. Other than that, dirt and debris may have made its way to the valves for the gears.
