I took the 2010 Toyota Venza to the dealer after 6:00PM. The staff that was there checked the electrical system and reported that the system was OK. They told me that because their "Head of Department-Electrical Mechanic" should run a complete inspection/test the following morning. It was the battery. $169.00.

The reason I asked, "Can the multifunctional switch cause the battery to discharge" well, that happened on my PT Cruiser several weeks ago. The battery was replaced. New battery discharged. Battery was replaced with new another new one. Alternator tested a bit low in output and was replaced with new one plus belts. 3 weeks of having vehicle towed back to the mechanic and the same thing happening with a $700.00 charge! The car was running on the new battery and taken to the Chrysler Dealer. They kept the car for a week anfd finally determined it was the multifunctional switch causing the fog light to turn on intemittently. $407.00

Thank You all for your input! The internet can help, but the dealer who manufactures the vehicle knows what could be the solution.

My 2010 Venza is dying suddenly. Diagnostic test is clear. Car restarts fine, but dies after climbing hills or going around sharp curves. What could be wrong?

This is an electrical issue caused by a sensor, connection, and/or faulty component. You could invest in a service manual that goes through all the system checks but still not identify the issue if it is a sensor, connection or other intermittent problem. The first approach might be to check electrical connections. Do visual inspection to see if a dirty or loose connection can be located. Changing out parts can be effective but is typically expensive because parts houses dont to refund parts that have been used in any way.

Hi my name is Flavio and I am a Master Diagnostic Technician for Toyota. If The alternator is charging properly and the Battery is charge there is two probably causes over a period of inactivate something is discharging your battery,(to check for this disconnect the battery tonight and see how the car start tomorrow when the battery is reconnected ) second the started is going bad and is drawing lots of amps out of the battery, for this to check you need a meter but when the starter is bad and before the engine starts the starter wines in its effort to gain revolutions to start the engine the positive cable of the battery get hot and sometimes smoke and smell like electrical burn. so you need a starter.
