2004 Chrysler Voyager, had an acrid burning smell and a lot of smoke when heater is turned on, also a rattling/squealing noise, all stops when heater turned off?

you more than likely have a sciezed air con compressor. most modern cars have climate control which uses air con even when demisting and when engaged the electric clutch tries to engage but the pump itself will not turn, clutch will get red hot and burn your belts

I have a screeching noise when I start my air conditioning.

It could be but how easy was the belt tensioner ? that may be the problem by not putting enough tension on the belt. How tight is the belt ?

1998 nissan frontier, clutch on air con. makes noise when the clutch engages, belt is tight, what is the problem?

You probably have a frozen belt tensioner arm on you serpentine belt that runs to your air conditioner. Check the tensioner arm for free movement , if it is frozen replace the arm.

I have a loud engine noise--somewhat high pitch whine--except really loud and only after so many rpms. The noise happens when I am running my air conditioner. Ten to 15 miles after I first noticed the...

So when you turn off the air con the noise stops ..
If yes then its the bearings in the Air Con pump which is driven by the same belt and when turning the r13 coolant around the bearings being dry and worn out will start to make the noise Same as the water pump does when it goes, but yours is Air Con Pump.
DONT TAKE IT OFF YOUR SELF. RON

Noisey drive belt, possibly alternator, belt

sounds like idler bearings but you have to release the tension to check,Also you can check the rest of the pulleys also at this time. I dont think you have to drop the engine.

Nissan xterra 2003 car noisy problem

If it's the water pump there should be water leaking, if it's the steering pump the noise  would change as you turn the steering wheel left to right. If it's constant, it could be just old belt and bad idler and tension pully. Start buy praying a little water to the belt while the engine is running and if the noise goes away, the belt is in time to be chaged. If the noise is still there, then most likly it's the ilder bering or tension bearing. Good luck

Whistling noise coming from engine compartment on 2004 toyota sequoia

Troublkeshoot possible noisy idler pulleys, if they are OK, remove the plastic cobers & check for a noisy timing belt tensioner pulley. Water pumps rarely "whistle"; they grind. But, if you see any evidence of leakage at the weep hole on the water pump impeller shaft, replace the pump regardless. Might as well replace the timing belt whilst you are there, too.

Noise Under Hood

Hi there!

I'll have a go for you but I'm working in the dark here - it could be over 50 different faults! - Lets rule out a few.

Is the car behaving differently - or just making a noise?
Has it been serviced in the last 8 months?
Do you have power steering?
Do you have Air Con ?

I would say it may be an air-con pump, power steering pump, water pump or belt idler at the moment.

In the engine bay - are there....
Any leaks of fluid?
Any dry powdery rust marks around the pullies?

This may not be a serious fault at the moment, but may be the start of a wear problem.
Let me know the answers to the above to try and narrow it down for you.
Thanks.
