Have to replace the entire radiator

They obviously get very hot & are under
pressure,so if the oem one didn't last ,
no kind of patching will either

THE NORMAL LOCATION FOR A THERMOSTAT IS AT THE END OF THE TOP RADIATOR HOSE ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. THERE SHOULD BE A ROUND BALL SHAPED HOUSING HELD IN PLACE WITH TWO OR THREE BOLTS. SOURCE: 1995 toyota pickup, surging at around 2000 rpms

Is the check engine light on?

A major cause of surging is either air leaks between the air flow meter and the engine intake manifold, or a bad or mis-adjusted throttle position sensor.

1995 Toyota 4 runner why is my exhaust smoking really bad and smell like tranny fluid

I don't think its transimisson fuild .
Is the smoke white if so the head gasket is blowen.
Not really many ways transmission fuild can enter the combustion chamber unless the transmission cooler lines are breached inside the radiator.
Do you see antifreeze on the oil dipstick or oil floating on top of the antifreeze in the radiator white foem its 25 years old think about that

Somehow the coolant is getting into the exhaust system. Either by a blown head gasket, a cracked head or possibly a cracked block. If it's an aluminum head, that's probably it.

ALSO CHECK THERMOSTAT IS NOT UPSIDE DOWN AND ALL HOSES CONNECTED ON REBUILD ON CORRECTLY

For all Toyota engines on this model, the thermostat is located under the upper radiator hose water inlet connection.

Careful - a long time ago there was a recall on Toyota's T100 steering wheel shaft. It could fracture - and might cause the problem you seem to be having.

97 Nisson pickup smoking white smoke (a lot)

this indicates that you have a blown head gasket. you may not have water in the oil pan but it's because the water is not leaking into your oil galleys, but instead leaking into the cylinders and being burned hence the white smoke.. there is a big myth that you will get water in the oil with a blown head gasket . there might be trace amounts but the only time you get water in the oil is if the heads crack or the block cracks othere wise most times it's just getting burnt in the cylinders, hence the great amount of white smoke. please rate this thanks.
