Question about 2003 Ford Focus

2003 Ford Focus does not start

I have a 2003 Ford Focus that will not start. I've had misfire problems in the past so the coil pack and wires are all about 15months old, the spark plugs are about 2 months old. I had the crankshaft sensor come up on the check engine diagnostic and as of today there is a brand new one in. The car cranks but does not turn over, all I hear is a popping sound.

I've seen other posts which mention the cold weather, so I thought I'd include that I'm in Texas and the weather is 61F which is somewhat cold for the area, but not for the rest of the nation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like I'll have to take it into the shop after all to check the compression, but to add, the timing belt was changed about two weeks ago when the water pump was changed out. I believe then the crankshaft wasn't lined up so it got realigned.

well turns out it was just the spark plugs even though they were only 3 months old, but there was an underlying problem that i'll explain here in case anyone has the same issue.

the problem started with a broken head gasket. this was causing antifreeze to leak into fuel-air mixture. I'm not sure how this happened but my mechanic determined this by smelling antifreeze coming out of the exhaust as well as a foggy liquid on the oil dipstick. this all contributed to the spark plugs burning too hot which caused them to burn out sooner than their time.

    thanks for your help

If it's getting fuel and is making a spark then the timing has to be off. Making the assumption that it's got a timing belt, I'd guess it jumped on a misfire. If it has not been replaced in a while you would want to do that as they stretch overtime and need replaced from time to time. If this is the problem you may have also bent a valve, so ceck the compression too.

From what you descibing sounds like you have a misfire or the crank sensors not set right and your are firing out of sequence get the diagnotics on with the new sensor in and see what the readings are

there is a possibiltynthat the new belt has slipped thats why it threw up the sensor fault and you may have bent valves speak to people who fitted your cam belt as it should have a guarantee

I have a ford focus 2003 model.plugs number 2 and 3 are missfiring.is there posibbility that the Ecu has packed?

Check the connection to your coil pack for a corded or broken wire going into the connector. The coil pack is where the plug wires come from. Ford has a pigtail kit to replace it if it is bad. Or the coil pack is bad. Top, driver side of engine.

Only 1 in 10,000 PCMs is defective.

My 2000 Ford Focus SE is throwing a P0302 code for misfire in cylinder 2. We replaced the spark plugs and wires, cleaned the fuel injectors, and checked all fluids. It still misfires and my gas mileage is...

Ignition coil is most likely..clogged injector is uncommon but possible..fuel injector cleaner can only do so much..coil would be the thing to start with..

Car runs then no acceleration as if its misfiring

Did the problem start before or after all these parts replacement?

Check vacuum lines and possibly fouled PCV valve.

1997 ford taurus sho misfire cylinder 1

check the wiring connector going to the coil pack. you will probably find one wire corroded going into the connector. Ford sells a connector kit for this repair @ $35..
It will turn on you check engine light. Is it on?

Engine misfires

You didnt mention having changed the spark plug wires, so that is another item that could be culprit as well. As well, it could be a coil pack that is not working properly.

I cannot recall at the moment if that model year uses coil on plugs or if it uses coil packs. Either way, if it uses a coil on plug set up, take the one for the #3 cylinder and move it to say #4 or anyone of your choice and see if the misfire follows

If it uses coil packs, there is likely one coil pack that controls two cylinders. In that case just swap the coil pack with an adjacent one and see if the problem follows. Pay attention to where the spark plug wires go because it will be an issue if you get them mixed up. You just swap the coil packs around.

I would, however, start with the spark plug wires if you have not changed them already.
