SOURCE: TORQUE SPECS /HEAD GASKET/2001 CAVALIER...

for the 2.2L OHV:
(pully 8 4 1 5 9 <-- long bolts @ 63Nm (46ft/lb)
side ) 7 3 2 6 10 <-- short bolts / 10 is the stud @ 58Nm (43ft/lb)

for the 2.4l dohc are as follows:
(pully 9 3 1 5 7
side) 10 6 2 4 8
bolts 1-8 torqued to 65Nm (40ft/lb)
bolts 9-10 torqued to 40Nm (30ft/lb)

then (either engine) give each an additional 90° (¼) turn

it's best to do the tightening in stages, you don't want to go completely tight on the first pass or there will problems and you'll get to do it all over again

I have a 1998 chevy cavalier and i need to replace the front passenger side wheel bearing. is this difficult?

There pretty easy. You'll need a 34 or 36mm axle nut socket, a torque wrench, and a basic set of tools.

The hardest part will be removing the axle nut. once that is off you remove the caliper and rotor. I like to remove the outer tie rod from the knuckle so I can swing the axle back and forth to get at the wheel bearing bolts. this can be done by removing the not from the outer tie rod and hitting the part of the knuckle th tie rod goes through without hitting the tie rod so you don't damage it. After a couple of hits it will pop out.

Unplug the ABS sensor (if equipped). remove the three bolts holding the bearing to the knuckle, usually a 13 0r 15 mm socket and a swivel may help.

Once the bolts are out the bearing will come out. They can be frozen into the hub a little so you may have to get a little aggressive with a hammer to get it out.

make sure you note the position of the metal bracket behind the bearing (if equipped) and how the ABS harness is positioned (if equipped) it is important those go back the same way.

It is also vitally important to torque the axle nut to the proper spec after the new bearing is installed. Failure to do so will result in the new bearing failing prematurely. Cheaper isn't always better so get a good quality bearing.

heres some pictures to help. They are from a venture but very simular to a cavalier or any GM.
