Question about 2002 Ford SVT Focus
Thought it just needed a tune-up because it was running ruff. So, new plugs new wires, oil change ( no water in the oil ), changed the fuel filter as well. After plugs and wires I added a 1/2 bottle of fuel injector cleaner (note: the guy at the parts store picked out the stuff and I asked him if he was sure because the cleaner said it was for diesel motors, he said he was). Ran ok for a couple of hours and then it started to run like **** again but even worse. Checked the plugs and wires again and found #3 cylinder wasn't firing properly. Changed that plug and wire again. No improvement. If I pull the #3 wire the car runs the same. Good plug and wire. I'm wondering if it's the distributor coil or a clogged fuel injector. The OBD code I get is P1311 Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 1. And lastly if you stand behind the car while its running it smells like burning oil.
I had this problem too exept I have no clue what parts or blah b;ah blah. I just know that my coil pack was getting fried.burnt out because my wires were bad. The mechanic I went to was a moron because I took the car to him 3 times and he kept saying it was the coil ad kept replacing it. I took it to my uncle and he said my wires were in horrible shape and when this is the problem it fries your coil making your car run like a lawn mower! Well all i did was replace my wires and the car ran great! Well I hope this helped..

well thats a good question. the sensor may be ok and your engine is running lean, or the sensor is bad............its possible that its bad, but I would want it checked by a qualified repair shop first, you dont want to replace parts because you THINK they are bad, that just costs you even more money. The upstream is located in the bottom of the exhaust manifold. if its lean found out why..... vac leak?
