Elantra Backdoor shuts closed and does not stay open.

My 2002 Hatchback Elantra GT backdoor does not stay open and if you don't hold it open with your hands, it will slam down with lethal force when you let go.

Yes, that's probably the problem. Can these be repaired or do they need to be replaced?

The struts on My Hyundai Accent 2007 failed and the hatch fell out of the sky onto my head and I cant begin to tell you the weight it hit me with. Caused shocking head and neck problems. According to Hyundai struts dont fail, but they did. I still have whiplash problems.

Replace the hatch struts. I'm assuming you're talking about the back hatch. There should be 1 or 2 struts (look like shock asborbers), they've probably gone bad.

No, they aren't serviceable, i'd just replace them, take them off and take it to carquest. or such place.

The light might not be working due to a simple short on fuse or could be something else. Bring it to a shop if you can't fix it.

I have a 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara, The backdoor is unlocked but it won't open when you squeeze the handle. Is there any way that I can get the backdoor open without having to take it to a dealer?

it sounds to me like the linkage inside the door may have come off. you have to remove the door panel that is if you can open the door from inside. if not you may be able to open the door with a slim jim. no matter what you have to get the door panel off to fix your problem. that can be a task if you can't open the door.

Open the door and spray some white lithium grease into the latch mech. if that doesnt work try checking the latch cable for damage or stretching

1997 Jeep cherokee back door latch....was difficult to open requiring multiple tugs, and now won't open at all.

The latch on the gate holds and locks itself on a peg on the floor panel. These are adjustable and after time can move causing the problems you have now.

You may have to get in the boot / trunk and remove the inner panel to access the lock internally to open but try this first:

Pull up latch handle and keep holding it up until open, shoulder firmly the backdoor as if you are trying to close it hard, it should click, then pull open.

MY DOME LIGHTS STAY ON EVEN WHEN ALL THE DOORS ARE SHUT ON MY 96 WINDSTAR THE DASHBOARD IDIOT LIGHT STATES THAT THERE IS A DOOR AJAR BUT ALL DOORS CLOSED. I CLEANED ALL CONTACTS ON BACKDOOR AND SLIDING...

Spray lubricant in the driver's and passenger door latches. One of the switches in the latch are sticking. Open and close the door several times to free up the switch.

Hydraulic arms for 2001 hyundai elantra hatchback

They are gas charged shocks, so if they aren't holding, they won't hold in the future. You will either have to "rig" it, or buy new/used units and replace them. It could be just one that is bad (and it is usually really random when they go out), but they only make them just strong enough to hold as a pair.
